Bomb mexican food late night hole in the wall places are always the best! Cheese fries and quesadillas for the win. Fiesta in my mouth!!! Huge burritos and dank salsa:)

Love the crispy beef tacos here. The ambiance needs some work. I think music would help a lot! Please put some music on for your customers:)

This place does not deserve stars at all! We did take out and got Carne Asada fries. Ate a few bites and found A GIANT WAD OF HAIR in between the cheese and fries! It was SOOO disguisting!! I LOVE Mexican food but that experience seriously had me turned off from Mexican food for a loong time. Never will I eat at these places again :(

So insanely good that we're now sitting two days later eating Carne Asada burritos that only get better and better and better this is amazing can't wait to go back again

Good and reasonably cheap Mexican food across from Saddleback college. They have good carne asada, beef rolled tacos with guacamole, etc.

  • Matt D.

Carne Asada treet tacos are legit, but I guess no one orders Carnitas here. I think the Carnitas I just brought home have been sitting under a heat lamp since the place opened. I love Carnitas, the crunchy bits make my day, but this was like trying to chew bark chips...really dissapointing. If I had eaten there I would have sent it back. Then again reading the customer service reviews, I don't think I'd be comfortable with what they sent out after a complaint. Definate potential, decent prices, but seriously need some quality control and consistency. Where is management???

I go to school across the street and when I'm on a budget AND on a time crunch between classes to eat, this is my go to place! All I have to say is... Carne Asada Fries!

  • Sophie C.

Forget tacobell, if you want real deal burritos come to this place. My personal favorites are shrimp burrito, fish burrito, and california burrito. Their horchata is good but the last time i went, it was kinda watered down.

I give Albertaco's 3 stars for price. I was working in Mission Viejo and forgot to pack my lunch. The mall food options were dim and a co-worker suggested Albertaco's because they were cheap. Which definitely was the case, however, there's a difference between hole-in-the-wall cheap crazy goodness and just cheap. This was the latter. Being a vegetarian, I ordered the Chile Relleno burrito. I'm pretty sure I saw the cook microwave the chile Relleno for my burrito. So it's either frozen, or made days prior. Not fresh for sure. The sauces weren't that great either. They seemed watered down and lacked flavor. Could they do something different? Probably not. Not a great place for vegetarians. There is no veggie burrito listed. But fast and cheap, and from the other reviews, it sounds like the meat options are at least tasty. I did spend only $5.13... Which in my opinion is a success. But how will I feel later today? I'm pretty sure my stomach will be hating me.

Have to say if you live in mission viejo area we all know albertacos! Food it's fairly priced and they also have great salsa!! You def have to try it out if you haven't been here, place could use a face lift do not let it fool you! It's good

  • Dez T.

great food! super inexpensive! secret habanero sauce is amazing not for the faint of heart!

  • Marwin L.

The Yelpers were right about one thing: Mexicans apparently don't eat here, lol The whiners aside, I tried it during lunch. Called it for a fully-loaded carne asada fries plus a breakfast burritos. $11. Damn. I'm going to get fat(ter).

A classic fast food Mexican joint with the "ertos" ending (Roberto's, Alberto's, Gilberto's, etc). The ambience is lacking, but the food is good. Carne Asada fries, California burrito, and Carne Asada tacos won't disappoint. Would give 5 stars if the ambience was better, but when it's called Albertaco's... What do you expect?

    (4)
  • Matt H.

Scrumdidlyumptious mexican food it's all about the California burritos and the carne Asada fries! Soooo good I've been coming here since the high school days!

    (4)
  • Michael A.

I'm a huge fan of getting high and eating here. Their chicken tacos are the best compared to all of the other alberto type joints in orange county but you'll need to either add sour cream or buy a side of it for 93 cents.

  • Noneya L.

This is when I'm pissed at yelp reviewers. I came here based on the 4 stars. You dumb yelpers giving away 4 or even 5 stars!!! This place is one of the worst mexican food places I have ever been to in my life. Stupid oc yelpers giving this place 4 to 5 stars. Came here today around 5pm. I ordered the carne asada burrito and also chips w carne asada. Omg!! Nasty. There is no flavor. And at times I thought I was eating something that went bad because the guacamole was so weird. I know my guac and guac here taste like freakin plastic !!!!!! Also forget about looking for great hot sauces or salsas. their sauces .... No freakin comment... I hate you Albertaco yelpers who gave 3 or 4 or 5 stars!!!! Scammed me of my time and money, and some calories ... Didn't finish my food for obvious reasons. Btw the cooks and the cashier constantly make weird noises. Some baby noises. Not freakin human noises.wth

Simple and delicious. Don't come expecting anything fancy, but if you're in the mood for a good California burrito this is one of the best places to go. The 3 rolled tacos are also a good choice. Pro tip: get super fries and a side of tortillas to go and make your own California burritos!

    (5)
  • Miranda I.

Food is tasty, but the service and seating isn't so great. Looks dirty inside and the order takers aren't very friendly. I get the steak tacos and steak fries. Food always tastes fresh.

Driving down to San Diego, we were hungry and were in search of a good Mexican food spot and our search led us here. Portions were great. We ordered carne asada tacos, carne asada frieds, and a chicken and fries plate. We were happy that they offered the chicken and fries plate because our son (a year old) was able to eat something aside from a quesadilla. We were used to little carne asada tacos, but this was definitely not that. We ordered way too much food. The carne asada fries were the best -- I recommend them!

    (5)
  • Pieper M.

Staff was horribly rude ignored me for about 5 min having their personal conversation with other customers before they bothered to take my order and you can tell they were quite bothered to do so. The enchilada sauce tasted like cheap vinegar and even the quesadilla was soggy like it had beensoaked in oil. Will not be returning.

  • Danger A.

Really good tacos, the staff seem pissed off for some reason. But really good tacos. I have to make this post longer. Tacos

I love Mexican food and although I have heard of a ton of people who swear by this place, I had never been! I finally stopped in for a quick lunch and of course I ordered my personal "go to" for Mexican food: Taquitos! I got the taquito combination plate. It came with rice, beans and three taquitos. Overall was happy with my meal. The taquitos were nice and crispy with good tasting chicken inside (some Mexican restaurants the chicken tastes a little off sometimes) They were served with a huge helping of guacamole on top (gotta love that!) The guac was super yummy with big chunks of tomatoes and onion in it. The rice also had full peas, big carrot chunks etc. Finally the refried beans, they were good, not the best I have ever had (I love Jalapenos) but good!

    (4)
  • Mona C.

Do any Mexicans actually eat here? Not impressed. Tried the tacos and fries. Love that they have so many options and their menu includes photos, making it simple to chose and order. Staff is friendly.

    (3)
  • Matt S.

Carne asada fries bigger than your head. Insanely good. The quality of the food is amazing for how quickly it came out. The rest of the food looks equally as great and the portions are definitely worth the price. I have been to Albetros in Lake Forest/El Toro and it's very similar. The green sauce is also great.

    (5)
  • Rob G.

awesome pollo asado borito! highly recommended !!!

    (5)
  • Sophie M.

Fast yummy and friendly! Easy and so yummy! The flavors are always there and they're 24 hour which is why it's a go to when I'm in the area! I get the carne asada burrito or carne quesadilla- delicious. Absolutely amazing

  • Dan N.

Carnitas tacos are the best thing in the world. Other things are pretty good, but seriously the carnitas.

After many years of being a fan of Jalapeno's the wife and I decided to branch out with our Mexican food consumption and finally give Albertaco's a shot. I can say we are both very happy that we did. We even ended up eating it back-to-back nights. The service is very friendly and the prices are really unbelievably reasonable. We each got one same item as the first time and for one of us it was better the second night and the other it was better the first night, so hopefully our next trip will equal it all out! Items Eaten: Breakfast Burrito- Fresh flour tortilla, Egg, Cheese, Potato, Ham and Bacon. If you read my reviews or know me, you know i am a breakfast burrito connoisseur. Breakfast burritos are one of my all time favorite foods. The Albertaco's version is very good. I would prefer scrambled eggs over a whole egg, but that's trivial. I would also like more ham, but in the end this is an excellent burrito and highly recommended! Shredded Chicken Taco (Hard Shell) - So this is the item that i tried on both visits. The first visit it was awesome. The second visit it was not quite as good and had a weird taste. I can honestly say that the first night i tried it, it was one of the best hard shell shredded chicken tacos i have had. The second night it was still good, but the taste of the chicken was off (sour). I would recommend this taco. California Burrito- This was absolutely delicious. It came with carne asada, cheese, sour cream and french fries. The carne asada was very tender and had a lot of it. The french fries gave it a great texture and flavor. I would highly recommend this burrito. Bean and Cheese Burrito (Wet) - The beans are nice and moist and plenty of cheese. The enchilada sauce used is one of the best I've sampled in the county (When done right). This burrito is a large proportion and recommended. Cheese Enchiladas- This is the item my wife tried on both visits. The first night the enchilada sauce itself was good, but tasted off (sour). The second visit the enchilada sauce was perfect and on-point (Not sweet). The tortillas used for these are very fresh. Lots of cheese is used and they are highly recommended. Chips- The chips could have been more consistent and better. Some aren't fried all the way through causing some to be chewy instead of crunchy, but the chips that are fried perfectly are very delicious and not greasy and plenty crunchy. In conclusion Albertaco's does a great job. The high rating is warranted. It's also awesome that they are open 24/7, so if you ever have a late night/early morning Mexican food craving you are all set. I would highly recommend this establishment! ***** (5 Stars)- Amazing, zero flaws, a must go! (Not given often) **** (4 Stars)- Memorable, strongly feel you should visit *** (3 Stars)- Above average, worth a visit ** (2 Stars)- Average, some pro's and some con's * (1 Star)- Opinion is do not go, below average

  • Mike C.

This is not carne asada. I mean...yah, it's basically a watered down, very plain, no seasoning carne asada. I had to add a lot of salt to get through this bland meat. But the sad part is that I'll probably come back. Why?!? It's the only place that has "carne asada fries" within a few blocks from where I live. Otherwise, I would have to wait for my monthly trips down to SD to get some real carne asada fries. It's cash only or ATM debit card only here. They do have an ATM inside.

    (2)
  • Ashley M.

This is my go-to for quick, tasty Mexican food on my way home. I give this place a solid 4, given the following disclaimers: * Don't plan to eat here. It's hot inside, and on top of not being comfortable I think it makes the smell of Mexican food a little "heavier." It doesn't feel all that clean either- sanitary, sure, but I'm not sure they ever wipe the tables. * Don't get "chicken" anything. It's shredded, canned crap which makes anything it's in soggy. If you want chicken, order "pollo asado." THAT is delicious! * While I love the carne asada burrito, I often find the meat to be too dry. * The salsa is tasty but I wish they had pico de gallo too. So why do I still give this place 4 stars? It's a fair compromise on price and authenticity, and if you order the right things, it's absolutely delicious! The burritos and tacos are fantastic- stuffed full, mostly of meat! The fries are amazing too, especially when covered with cheese and guacamole, or the carne asada or carnitas fries- covered in meat, cheese, guac, sour cream etc. My husband says anything with carnitas is good, though I usually get pollo asado. The portions of all their food are generous, especially for the price. It's also open 24/7, making it one of very few places that are open late. While it's not healthy, it's at least a lot fresher than a fast food drive-through!

  • Idy H.

Pico de Gallo on the Carne Asada Fries or off to the side is pretty good. The guacamole here is fresh n tasty. The Asada is a bit bland but still good. Portion of the Asada Fries is not as big as the Asada Fries @ Albertos in Los Angeles but the quality can hold its own.

  • Danielle C.

This place is a great go to. They are open 24 hours and you can always count on the food being quick and good. The rolled tacos are the bomb! They are never shy about loading them with tons of cheese and guacamole. We eat here all the time at least once a week! You can always go there and get good Mexican food.

    (4)
  • Michael B.

Great for late night Mexican food. I have had a hit and miss food success here. I love burritos and the location don't seem to hit it out of the park. The tacos here are a much better choice and also anything crunchy. The location never seems to be clean or maybe it's just to run down and looks dirty. Never judge a taco place to much by decor. Still worth a try for a cheep bite.

  • Bryant L.

The two most convenient qualities about this place have got to be: 1.) its location, and 2.) its opening hours. Saddleback College students flock here pretty often because it's right across the street and closes at midnight on weekdays (but open 24 hours on weekends). Great for an affordable, quick bite after your evening classes! As for specifics, their carne asada fries are irresistible, and I LOVE their Horchata. PROS: - Great Mexican food, low prices - Fast service - Ample seating - Open until midnight on weekdays, and 24 hours on weekends - Located right across from Saddleback, and a couple minutes off the 5 Freeway CONS: - Unclean restrooms - Slightly shabbier

    (4)
  • Deniz B.

This place is bomb! I ordered a California Burrito for dinner. And I can't ask for a better one. They are fast, and convenient, plenty of parking. For sure going back to try out other things.

    (5)
  • Jack G.

Yawn. The chips, pico and horchata were pretty good. * Shredded beef taco: corn tortilla shell was rock hard and stale. Beef was plentiful but bland. * Chile relleno: Bland. Like eating air. * Cheese enchilada: One third of the cheese wasn't melted, and the sauce was bitter. I guess I'm spoiled by 10 years of superlative IE Mexican fare.

  • Mona C.

WORST CALIFORNIA burrito ever!! Seriously so bad. This thing had unmelted cheese some fries and carne drenched in yucky sour cream. No cilantro or Pico, nothing!! The meat was nasty as well. Yelp reviews usually do not fail me but this one definitely has....

My obsession with Mexican food ended this past Saturday. I don't know if it's because from time to time, I crave different cuisines or because my shrimp burrito at Albertaco's was not what I was expecting. Whatever the case - I was hungry and I wanted either a burrito or some tacos. This place is right across the street from where I teach, Saddleback College - or the (shameless plug) Saddleback Rider Training. Anyway, order, sit down, grab your own drinks and salsa and then wait for your order. Tables weren't very clean but that's easily remedied with some water and napkins. If you can't take the smell of the cleaning agents used to clean the bathrooms, don't sit so close. If you feel like you've had better, like I did - speak your mind on Yelp, just like I am now. First few bites, I felt like there was tons of shrimp. But the burrito must have been built with all the shrimps at one end. I ended up just eating burrito innards less any shrimp at all for the last two thirds of it all. The salsa was not hot. I asked for hot. Even my drink was flat. I should have learned from my first fill but I went back for seconds of the same drink ... Unlike not learning from my drink mistake ... my experience here ... well, I'm sure you can figure out the rest

I come here regularly except during college hours. The breakfast burrito is good for the money. If you pay with plastic choose credit because if you choose debit you'll be charged extra. Great, quick, cheap "Mexican" fast food.

    (4)
  • Aaron S.

They take credit card now too! Always good food and quick. It's also very inexpensive so worth it!

    (5)
  • ybanag a.

Carne Asada Burrito. Big, lots of meat w/ tomatoes, guacamole onions. The meat seem to be chewy and it was not warm at all, maybe has been sitting.

  • Ginny Y.

split a california burrito with my sister, we both eat ALOT and surprisingly we both were full and content. a delicious original mexican food restaurant!

    (5)
  • Danielle S.

Very hit or miss, it depends on who's working, but I keep coming back for french fries with cheese&guac and three rolled tacos. Thank you albertacos!

    (4)
  • Andrea J.

Proof that some of the best Mexican food is not served at fancy restaurants. I get a SHRIMP BURRITO once a week. I bring my own disinfectant wipe for the table and chair as the staff has to keep the huge line of hungry-devoted-Albertaco's-customers moving up and away quickly. I watched as the trays were wiped off with a damp cloth, so I would recommend using the tray only for transport, if at all. BREAKFAST BURRITO is Excellent! FISH TACO is very good, with a bite.

  • Vickie C.

Tasty and authentic mexican food in the middle of south Orange County! I would have never expected such a place to be here if not for a friend in the area who took us here. I had the Carnitas Plate, which was basically carnitas, rice, beans, guac, lettuce. They gave tortillas on the side. Got some spicy salsa to pour over the whole dish to spice things up! Deliciousss! They have other dishes as well: burritos, tacos, taquitos (which my friends said were super yummy!), enchiladas, tostadas, etc. My only complaint for this place, which gave it minus one star, is the lack of ventilation and a/c. If you come on a hot day, like we did, you definitely need to order to go to avoid getting a heat stroke. Parking: Huge parking lot for the whole plaza.

    (4)
  • Corinne O.

Honestly the worst and greasiest food I have ever had! I would have given negative stars if that was an option. The inside of this place is beyond disgusting! I've never been been to a dirtier place!

    (1)
  • J L.

Today I visited the dirtiest restaurant...ever! I can't believe I actually sat in the dining room and ate my food. The floors are disgusting and the tables weren't exactly clean, table tops were wiped down here and there but the bottom of the booths and the seats....so gross! The food was pretty good for the price, I ordered the #13 carnitas, tons of food for $7.50. The carnitas were a little greasy, the pico and guac were really fresh...but I had a hard time enjoying anything in that atmosphere. Take lots of antibacterial gel to wipe down your table and pray that the kitchen is 800 times cleaner than the dining room.

  • Chris v.

Thank goodness this place was open on thanksgiving. We ordered chicken flauntas, bean and cheese burrito and a carne asana tacos. All were delicious. The beans were creamy with good flavor. The salsa were good the hot is spicy so watch out. Only quibble the guacamole was a little bland. Nice color and texture though.

    (4)
  • Stephanie V.

When you're craving inexpensive and tasty Mexican food, here's your go to place. The breakfast burritos alone are worth a visit. The place could use a facelift, but that doesn't affect the taste and value. Go, you won't regret it.

    (4)
  • Kelly O.

Oh the California Burrito! Just try it, please! It will literally change your life! This place is a little rough looking but the food is amazing, the food comes out fast, and the prices are awesome!

    (4)
  • Michael Y.

Just a true hole-in-the-wall quick mexican food place! I'm always down for a Breakfast Burrito any time of the day! California Burrito is also quite good. Add a bit of either of their tasty salsas and you're set! Visit there a couple of times and they remember you when you come back ;) Food - 4 Location - 4 (not terribly far from the freeway or mall) Cleanliness - 3 Service - 4 (better than one would expect at similar establishments)

    (4)
  • Jeremy F.

5 Stars for being open 24 hours on friday and saturday! This is pretty much the only place in the area that can satisfy 3am cravings after a night of questionable decisions! The carne asada fries and the california burrito are fattening, delicious, and everything you could ever ask for after a night out with the homies.

    (5)
  • Michelle M.

I absolutely love this place!! I've been coming here for years now, they are by far my favorite place to eat :) I won't eat at any other place when I'm in Mission Viejo... for the quality of the food, the price is really good. I always order the California burrito... so good!!!!!

    (5)
  • Jewel A.

We go here all the time and these guys are the bomb. Fast, good prices, friendly dudes. Bathrooms could be nicer but it's a fast food joint, expectations are high for food, not bathrooms. We always get our fave- California Burrito (con Pollo Asado instead of Carne Asada) Cheese Enchilada and a cherry coke. Their red and green sauces are to die for. Have been loving this place since my first visit yearrrrs ago. Don't forget to TIP, these guys work fast and hard and they deserve it!

    (5)
  • Natasha H.

Nice service and the food comes out quick. As for the food.... We tried carne asada fries, rolled tacos, and the carne asada burrito. All very bland. We were very disappointed because of all the good reviews. It was just okay.

    (3)
  • Angela T.

Three guys in front of me in line. First guy: Cali Burrito, Second guy: Cali Burrito, Third guy: Cali Burrito, Me: Cali Burrito. I guess people like their Cali Burritos. It's a carne asada burrito with cheese, sour cream and french fries. You can get your own salsa from the little stand next to the register and just douse that burrito as you please. I've never been a really big fan of carne asada because the meat tends to dry out, but it definitely works in this burrito. It holds up well to the creaminess of the sour cream, and the mushiness of the french fries. Okay, that might not be the most appetizing description, but it's seriously pretty good. Thanks to my cousin for letting me know about this place.

    (4)
  • Andrew H.

Tried the two-taco carne asada combo plate and the shrimp burrito after a two year hiatus from Albertacos and I'm sorry to say that I'm disappointed. I think I've been spoiled by Chipotle but darnit, Mexican food can taste better! The Carne Asada was dry and overcooked, and my shrimp burrito was large, but fairly bland. In addition, the atmosphere is anything but classy: the bathroom has more carved graffiti than a gas station bathroom. Oh yeah, and there are only 3 salsa choices with two being far too watery for my preference.

    (2)
  • Natasha G.

If u want authentic and fast food put together go here. This place is for you The food comes in huge portions and for cheap!!!! They handmade their own tortillas and comes with almost every meal. You can sit inside or out, either way you will be satisfied

    (5)
  • Alejandra J.

The food is ok, the service was horrible. I ordered a breakfast burrito and as i was waiting two gentleman ordered food after i did, they got their food first even though i was before them! I go up to the gal working the cash register asking how long will my foof take? "Oh you want your burrito now?" Is what she replied. Yes! I would like my burrito now, why would i just pay for a burrito and not want it immediately???

    (1)
  • A c.

Good food for the price. Large generous portions. Open 24 hours on the weekend. Came late at night and had machaca plate, steak tacos, and shrimp burrito. Shrimp Burrito was the best with a little added guac and hot sauce. Steak tacos come with guac and pico and TONS of carne asada. Machaca... Had better but the rice and beans were good. Will try again

  • Mitchell T.

My favorite divey mexican joint. Breakfast burritos are the bomb. They recently upgraded their cash register, so a part of the old Albertacos is now gone. So sad. Going to get another burrito Friday. Yummy.

  • Ivan L.

This place is SUPER GOOD. I am originally from San Diego, Ca, and in San Diego there are these types of restaurants all over the place, with legit mexican fast food places. I was disappointed when I moved to orange county, to find such crappy mexican food places. This definitely brings the authentic mexican food to Orange county. I recommend the california burrito, carne asada, guacamole, french fries, pico de gallo, sour cream, and cheese. Not the healthiest, but definitely a once and a while treat!

NOT open 24/7!!! It's Sunday 9/9/13, 1:30 am and I'm sitting out front writing this review. CLOSED!!! Someone owes me three rolled tacos!

  • Steph G.

I visited this location whenever I am near the mall or college. It's directly opposite the college and Lexus/Mall. I usually get the crispy chicken tacos which never disappoint. CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM there. Super cheap and filling Mexican food. Next time I am trying those loaded fries.

I came here with a friend some....couple of months back and we were hungry and were looking to get some Mexican food in the area. Considering that this is in Mission Viejo, I wasn't expecting much since I live in East LA--home of the taco stands and taco trucks on every other corner in a 10-block radius. I ordered the carne asada fries because well...out of the entire menu, that one seemed like it might actually fill me up. I believe it was $6~ plus tax? I can't remember the exact price but it was under $7 I think. You can certainly pay with credit cards here so that's a plus. (Taco stands in East LA only take cash.) The place was clean, for the most part, and it's about the size of your average Mexican joint. Service was fast and friendly. No complaints there. The food, however, was a little disappointing. I don't know what these other reviewers are saying about the carne asada fries being bomb here but....it's not the bomb. If you've had the chance to eat Mexican food in East LA, this place PALES in comparison. No competition whatsoever. With that said though, it's not bad, for what it is. It was tasty and it did have flavor, but...that's about it. There's no "wow" factor to it. Portion size is excellent though so you do get what you paid for. No complaints there. Would I come back though? Probably yes, if I happen to be in Mission Viejo, since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of anything else worth eating around here. Next time I am in Mission Viejo, I will probably try out their burritos. Would I recommend this place? Sure. It's always been my policy to give any restaurant a shot or two before ruling it out as a bad place to eat.

  • Elizabeth S.

Obsessed with their cali burritos!! They only take cash but have an atm that charges to use.

    (4)
  • Andy S.

The combination of price and quality of food makes Albertacos of the one best Mexican food places around--especially if you like burritos. Sure it's not the cleanest restaurant and you certainly wouldn't want to have a formal dinner here, but it more than makes up for it with the value you are getting. You will literally not find a Mexican food place this well priced in South Orange County I.e. a copious amount of guacamole on your burrito costs 60 cents. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito, the chicken burrito(slow cooked, shredded chicken), and the taquitos with guacamole. Enjoy.

  • Jen A.

A weekly visitor...carne asada fries are flavorful, huge proportion and always a hit. A bed of fries, tender asada, melted cheese w guac and sour cream. Also recommend the carnitas tacos. They're stuffed to the max (seriously enough meat for 2-3 tacos) with delicious carnitas and sometimes slightly crispy. Chopped onions, cilantro and guac...goes well with their salsa verde. I've saved some of the carnitas meat to make omelets in the morning. Not a huge fan of the chicken burrito there, chicken has one note and seems "meh" but breakfast burritos are tasty and extremely filling. Also enjoy the rolled tacos!

This is the last standing GREAT authentic Mexican fast food restaurant in the area. My absolute faves are the carne asada burrito with sour cream, guac, pico de gallo, beans and cheese and the carne asada fajitas burrito with the same fixings. This place is definitely a "hole in the wall," but that just calls for comfort, whether you've got the munchies super late at night, it's lunchtime after the beach, or not being in the mood for the Mission Viejo Mall food court. I live in Northern CA, but I make my family and friends come to Albertaco's with me every time I come down. When I lived down here, I got the same burrito 4 days in a row; I wasn't sick of it after 4 days, I just forced myself to eat other food because it seemed like the right thing to do. My uncle from FL always wants to go when he visits too, which is funny because he's one of those fancy eatery types. This place has been my absolute favorite since middle school! Please never change like all of the other Mexican restaurants, which continue to break my heart!!!!!!

Sigh... I had such high expectations. I don't know why this place has good reviews. All I can say is... I miss san diego. Carne Asada fries was a DISASTER. The meat was... grey... why is it grey????????? DISGUSTING. I'm seriously driving back to SD just to get some legit carne asada fries. To all carne asada fries virgins out there.. please go to any taco places in san diego to try it. ugh. grey food.

Oscar and the gang are great, I've been eating here for over 10+ yrs. Consistently good each and every time.

Reviews were right. Go ahead and order yourself a carne asada burrito n the 3 rolled tacos. The burrito was the size of my fist. Packed with flavored steak chopped meat and creamy avocado, onions, rice, beans, and tomatoes. 3 rolled tacos were crunchy topped with sour cream, avocado and cheese. Opens 24/7! Fast and friendly service. Accepts cards.

What do you do when you're hungry for breakfast and you have to drive down to Carlsbad for Thanksgiving lunch? You stop by Albertaco's and order carne asada fries at 10am. I dunno what they do here, but these are probably the best carne asada fries in OC. They serve up generous portions of carne asada, guac, sour cream and cheese atop perfectly crispy french fries. When my order is ready, I open up the styrofoam box and pour on the red hot sauce at the salsa bar. There's also fresh pico de gallo there so I throw that in too. You better believe we polished that bad boy off!

Yummy California burrito and breakfast burrito! They're open until midnight most nights and open 24 hours Fridays and Saturdays!! Yay!

I love their food so much, especially the California burrito. Customer service is pretty good. They're always very happy and polite. The only thing I would complain about is that I think they take a slightly long time to bring out the food. Other than that, I love the place.

I'm sitting here at 2am on 9/13/13 and it's closed. I'm really sad. It's clearly not 24/7. Heed the other yelp reviews!! Don't waste your gas!

How funny, I was talking about carne asada fries and this place just happened to be close to that dive bar my friend was playing at. Yum! Fate is on my side =) Ugh, I don't agree with all the rants about the amazing carne asada fries. I didn't think they were horrible, I just didn't think they were amazing either. The carne asada tasted like boiled beef. It was so bland and tasteless, I was hoping for some nice char from the grill but no, none =( The shrimp burrito on the otherhand was a pleasant surprise! The shrimp were cooked perfectly to a nice crispy snap when bitten into and it paired well with the rice and slaw. The cabbage slaw was a bit mayo heavy but other than that, amazing! And it was only $4ish =D After seeing pics though, I wish I had gotten a hard taco...man that looks good =d

Great price for the portion sizes. Since almost all mexican places taste more or less the same, the one thing I focus on are the beans. Sometimes they are watery, other times they are salty, and still other times they are bland. Albertacos had wonderful beans that were nicely seasoned and not dried cakes. The taquitos were nice and crispy topped with the usual suspects of shredded lettuce, sour cream, guac and pico de gallo. Don't forget to hit up the salsa bar near by! No AC so eat here during the summer at your own risk!

I tried the carne asada fries since this was touted by other yelp users. I was disappointed in it because the flavors of the beef, guacamole, sour cream and fries didn't mix that well. The fries itself were no close to being McDonalds good. The self-serve pico de gallo was FIVE STARS. I got the machaco plate. I'll give that 4 stars. Scrambled eggs with sausage, peppers, and other stuff. Albertaco's reminds me very much of Albatross over in Lake Forest. I think Albatross is a little better.

AGGHH! the dreaded CASH ONLY sign! I literally had to scrounge my car for like $6 in stray coins, but I was determined not to leave without my shrimp burrito and horchata. After dumping a roll of quarters into the glaring cashier's hand, I proceeded triumphantly off to find a seat at one of their ugly ass red and yellow tables...only to find every single one of them packed with your classic orange-tanned OC crowd. *cue phantom planet Remember when this place used to be open 24 hours? I'd make the 20 minute drive in the middle of the night to get my late night dose of their amazing tortillas. Great tortillas, decent food, always worth the drive.

Not open 24/7.... However when they are the California burrito is the beesknees plus they have breakfast burritos all day long!

I've been spoiled by the great hole-in-the-wall Mexican food places I did my late night snacking at when I lived in San Diego. This is the most comparable place I've been to in OC. I absolutely love the rolled tacos with guacamole! Three crunchy beef tacos topped with a generous scoop of fresh guacamole and a handful of cheddar and jack cheese.... not a sprinkling, but literally a handful. So deliciously good and under $3. The carne asada fries are also heart-attack-waiting-to-happen good. French fries topped with carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. You'd think with a combination like that, you couldn't fail, but some places do. This isn't one of them! My only complaint is that they're not open 24 hours for that grease fix after a night of drinking.

Whenever I review Mexican food places, especially those in New York (where I live now), my gold standard is Albertaco's. I've been coming here since high school. To me, their carne asada burrito is the best burrito ever. Why? Because it's consistently good, it's inexpensive, and there is no filler like beans or rice. The carne asada burrito is purely meat, pico de gallo, and guacamole. That's it. It doesn't need any fancy fixins'. It's that damn good. Oh, and for good measure and to truly appreciate the tastiness, one must eat the burrito with liberal amounts of their red hot salsa. So yeah, while the place might need some remodeling and a little cleaning up, this is hole-in-the-wall dining at its best.

This burritos are not what I expected . Usually Mexican burrito has meat , beans, rice not this place if u want beans and rice is extra for .75 each . This burritos are meat , pico de gallo , guacamole . I prefer beans and rice and that's the way I order it . I did not really like it it was okay. My children got asada tacos the tortilla are hand made yellow big tortillas 2.00 each taco . They also said it was okay . =^..^=

I recommend this restaurant to everyone that will care to listen. I have been going here since I was in high school and the quality of the food has stayed amazingly the same amazing taste. Despite me living 10 miles away, I still drive the distance in order to get albertacos. Besides my biases, the restaurant has that typical hole in the wall, mom and pop feel to it. It can seat up to about 50-60 people I assume based on how many tables there are. There is also outside seating. As for crowd and atmosphere, the late night crowds are the usual high school/college kids but other than that, it has a usual variety of regulars. There's sometimes music and the bathrooms are decently kept clean--don't expect a clean clean bathroom but its also not disgusting. Bottom line? Please, please go here. This is from the bottom of my heart. :)

The food is bland and the people that work there are beyond rude. We live right down the street, so we continued to go there for the hours and convenience, but I don't even want to deal with them anymore.

Pretty good stuff. I'm a huge burrito fan, and this was my first California Burrito. No not from CA, but filled with french fries, cheese, chicken asada, and others. I think I'll come back at some point. -1 star for no credit card and a 65c charge for debit card! Catch up USA, cash is going the way of the Dodo Bird.

This place is always around when you need it. There isn't any place in south Orange county quite like it. There's plenty in North Orange and San Bernardino county but not here among overpriced overated restaurants of South Orange. This is mindless self indulgence. The decor says "yeah it looks like a defunct MacDonalds from the 70s in here but that's because we focus more on the food." It's a nice change of pace from the fancy Crap that is the standard here. Quesadillas are huge and Chicken burritos are greatness. Some of their stuff can be a bit greasy but totally worth the trip to the hospital. They throw fries in a burrito and call it a Californian something or other because apparently if you add fries or avocado to anything these days its considered Californian. This place is a great late night spot. I dont think I have ever seen it empty either. Of and they finally take card so bam! even better. Also whats up with the derivative name on these kind of places? I've seen the original Alberto's as well as Albertaco's, Albeto's, Alanberto's (yes...alanbertos) and Ramberto's. Weird...but GOOOOOD

So glad a San Diego taco shop is near by in our new home town. 90% close match with a winner breakfast burrito and darn good carne con papas (carneasada fries)! Thank you for the excellent salsas too. Open 24 hours, doesn't get better!

  • Ed K.

The food was excellent but I didn't give these people full stars because the the decor inside was the worst I've ever seen... If it's been a little bit of money on some paint and fix a few details they would get full stars from me... But the service was good and the food was excellent just clean the place up and you got it

It's been a while since I've been here, but I recall the carnitas burrito being pretty good but the carne asada burrito being a little dry and lacking. Average edible mexican food, and I think there's some extra raw onions in there that I wasn't crazy about.

Real authentic food in orange county. I am from LA and I recently moved here so I am looking for the best mexican food places. I really LOVE the food. The tacos are like burritos and the nachos are excellent. One problem floor, tables and restrooms sorta of dirty. This is a great business they need to hire a person that is constantly cleaning the joint. Many times there is no soap in the restrooms so I wonder what the cooks are doing. I am sure you guys can afford one more employee.

If you want good Mexican food for a good price, then this restaurant is your best bet. For a fast food type of restaurant, the quality of the food is great. The portions are fairy large too. The employees are kind, and they get your orders straight. The line may be long at times, but it's definitely worth the wait. The store appearance may look a bit unsanitary, but for the most part it's clean. The best part is that this place is open 24 hours. The best place for a midnight snack in my opinion.

I've only been here one time, but it was the first of what will soon be many, because it was sooo good. I got the fish tacos and a side quesadilla. Don't be fooled by the word "side" - the quesadilla was huge! It was perfectly cooked and not too thick on the cheese, which is exactly how I like it. The fish tacos were SO delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh and the flavors were all perfectly balanced. I also got a tamarind juice, but it had too strong of a bite for me personally. I didn't care much for the interior - the yellow and red booths felt like McDonalds, not a very cozy feeling - but that's what to-go is for! I'm definitely going to come back here many times.

I held off writing my review until I became Duke of this delightful joint. Don't ask me why, I guess I just figured maybe some of you might actually read it if I did. Okay, lets start with the layout. Definitely not one of the cleanest or most appealing places on the planet BUT that's all part of the experience. Nobody comes to Albertaco's for a candlelit dinner, they come strictly for the food, oh the wonderful food... As most of the other reviews state, the California Burrito and Carne Asada Fries are to die for. Simply put, order either of these items and you are guaranteed a satisfied stomach that's bursting at the seams. Unlike most other affordable Mexican restaurants today, Albertaco's doesn't know the definition of skimping. In fact, at times they provide so much cheese and guacamole on top of your order, you might not realize there's actually something hiding beneath it My last advice to fellow Yelper's is to try avoid this place during lunchtime Monday through Thursday when school is in session. Doing so will ensure you won't run into any long lines of hungry college kids. Oh yeah and one more thing, if you can help it don't even let the thought of using their restroom cross your mind. You may highly regret it.

The food is ok, not great....but if you're in a hurry and want mediocre, overcooked, over fried, low quality meats it will suffice. I could probably overlook the the mediocrity if it weren't for the poor service. I've been here about 4 times, hoping to find at least one decent meal, and each time the service is so awful I swear I'll never go back. Today was the last time, the woman behind the counter was so rude and condescending, I will never waste my money here again.

Food: Amazing, you can't order anything bad! I love their food! Cleanliness: Very dirty, a "hole in the wall" kinda place. Could use a remodel and it couldn't hurt if the employees washed the tables and floors every once in a while.

This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall Mexican food place. But if you're not the foo-foo type and can look pass the ugly interior, then you should enjoy the food here. The homemade flour tortillas are what really puts this place a step above other Mexican spots. The chicken burritos are really good here! They pack it with lots of shredded chicken meat and I always add rice & beans. It's a pretty large burrito, especially for how cheap the price is. The downside is the unattractive and sometimes dirty dining area and the salsa bar is a bit limited. Nonetheless, this place remains a local favorite and gets plenty of business.

Stopped by here last night to have a quick bite with my son and hubby. Seriously disappointed! I made the mistake of ordering the enchilada plate, my husband had the two taco plate and my son had the chicken burrito. 1. Starting with the positive, my son's chicken looked really good with massive amounts of shredded and chunks of chicken. This is his favorite, now I know why. 2. Rice was hard and beans were bland. 3. The "stuff" that covered the enchiladas was not sauce, it was mystery liquid with greasy cheese. Real question, was it real cheese? 4. Decor was plastic and not very Mexican. I may be of the minority who expect a Mexican restaurant to be decorated with a decor that at least slightly resembles Mexico. 5. Definitely a place where you get what you pay for. That should have been the first clue. So, my bad. 6. Very cheap/inexpensive food and a lot of it! I am writing this review the following day with a lump in my stomach and not feeling very well. There you have it, my take on this place. Bleh...

  • Blake C.

After seeing the excellent reviews on yelp, I had to check it out. Not impressed. Not authentic, seriously people. The food is very greasy, and the people making the food probably just assemble it. I would not tell anybody I know to go here. The decor in this place is absolutely a let down. Almost as bad as Cluckin Bell in GTA San Andreas. It's good if you're drunk because they are open 24hr on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and that's about it.

  • Morgan M.

I really like this place. It's a good spot to grab some cheap mexi food and hit the road. Keep in mind, this definitely isn't fine dining, so stop complaining. Give this place a shot, but remember that it isn't made fancy. You get what you pay for.

  • John D.

Best rolled tacos and the breakfast burrito is ridiculously good. I used to go to the one in San Diego every time I was within 20 minutes if the location, I am stoked that I don't even have to leave OC when I am craving some hole in the wall Mexican now! The breakfast burrito is great for hangovers too!

When it was really cheap it was worth it - their prices have gone up a bit and I just don't think it's worth the money. Quality is average and food somewhat bland. I'm over it.

If you are up for no frills, highly tasty and inexpensive Mexican food this is a great option. Pollo Asado burrito and crisp beef tacos keep me coming back over and over. Place is very busy, but they are always be able to get your food to you fast. Bare bones but authentic, all very fresh because of very high turnover, prices are great. Staff is always totally hustling and busy, but very professional.

So I ate at this place last night...and I'm not really sure what I ate. My bf called ahead and ordered me the carne asada burrito with lettuce and sc (no guac). I'm not sure if it's bc we didn't order it there, but I went to eat my burrito, and it all fell apart. It was so gooey on the inside, and just was falling all over the place. I'm not sure if it's my fault for adding sour cream? I also hear ppl eat the CA burritos here; maybe the fries absorb all of that goop? So, I could totally understand how this place could be awesome for drunk college kids (I've heard about this place from college kids, and its cheap) but I've eaten too many SF Mission burritos to consider this an okay burrito. Taste was okay, but I honestly was eating my the goops of the burrito paper with a fork; I still am so confused about what I ate yesterday... o and it does take ATM cards now, w a $.65 fee --------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: I've been again and not ordered before and the food was good and cheap. I guess everyone can have their off days :p

Albertacos is where it's at. They never disappoint, the breakfast burrito is a drunken must and the carne asada fries can't be beat. Cheap for what you get, I wish they accepted credit.

Ok. I just had to write this review because there are so many negative reviews of this restaurant, so I'm here to educate on what to order. Carne asada burrito. Juicy meats, guacamole, and cheese, it's just orgasm in yo mouth. Carne asada fries. This thing is packed with just fried fries topped with carne asada, guac, sour cream, and cheese. Top it off with some pico and hot sauce, and you got yourself an awesome pack of fries. Honestly, haven't really tried the other menus, california burrito is aiit, but I always come here for the carne asada burrito because it's JUST THAT GOOD. I came here since my youth and gotta say, it's the best mexican place in the OC area. Don't expect good ambiance, just expect good, authentic mexican food.

I paid my first visit to this location yesterday (June 6, 2011), but I have had food from here before. This establishment is clean, the sign is clear & was in a well lit area. The menu is clear, can be understood by anyone, well priced (very cheap actually) and has a wall full of photos of what the dishes look like. My friends who live in the area took my other friend and I here for dinner. We ordered a crap load of food: carne asada fries, carne asada burrito, quesadilla, cheese enchilada, pollo asado tacos, beans, rice & taquitos. I tried a little of EVERYONE's dish and it was all fabulous! The food is totally on point! The only reason I'm not giving them a 5 star rating is because they seemed irritated that my friends and I were laughing & talking loud. And they didn't have much selection for a salsa bar...it was a hot red salsa and a pico de gallo, and thats it! WOULD COME AGAIN FOR SURE...any time I'm in town. Too bad there isn't a place like this, that serves carne asada fries in my local area. =( This place WON'T disappoint!

    (4)
  • Jackie W.

I'm giving this a low rating in hopes of getting the owners attention. The only problem I really have with this place is their California burrito... which contains no guacamole. The Albertacos in Vista appears to have the same owner, so I'm not sure why this difference exists between the 2 locations. Guacamole is pretty much what makes a California burrito just that. If they're not going to provide all of the normal ingredients, they should put what the burrito does contain on their menu.

Moving from LA to South OC was a big change especially when it came to dirty, ghetto, mexican food. LA is the land of the dirtiest and yummiest mexican food, and I like my mexican just that way. DIRTY! Dirtier the better, if you ask me. I came here with a friend since she assured me they had BOMB CARNE ASADA FRIES. My response was, you're from RSM. Whatchu know about bomb carne asada fries? So she showed me what she knew, and at Albertaco's is where we ended up. I go up to the counter and I ordered carne asada fries and 3 rolled tacos with guacamole. I look over to the right and they have a salsa bar. HOLLAR! I packed those little cups up with pico de gallo and green salsa. The food came out and it looked good. I took a bite and all my fond mexican food memories starting rolling in. The carne asada fries were good, and passed my expectations! The 3 rolled tacos were decent. I just wish they used cotija chese. Overall, this place hit the spot, and made me realize South OC does have a decent place for dirty mexican food!

My go-to place whenever I am in beautiful Mission Viejo! I recommend the breakfast burrito for a first-timer! It's DELICIOUS! And for you more adventurous types, try the Shrimp or Carnitas burrito! They are absolute HEAVEN! No joking!! I personally order either of these (without onion) and spice it up with the green chile. Great place for authentic Mexican food!

    (5)
  • Brian C.

This place is the best fast food mexican place if you want a buritto with meat. Most places put a few pieces of meat in their carne asada buritto's, this place is like 90% meat! I grew up on these down in Oceanside and was so stoked to see one up here in Mission Viejo. The food is always excellent and very inexpensive. I do wish they were open later though.

If you're expecting starch white table cloths and five star dining this is definitely not the place to be. Be prepared for a rough exterior (and interior) when entering. However, if you're willing to put up with some of the local (and broke) college grads then you're in for a treat. Their pricing is fantastic and you get more than what you paid for. The portions are good and it's as authentic of Mexican Food that you're bound to get in South Orange County.

This place is good i give it 5 stars A place where you can bring 5$ and legitimately be satisfied. I have had almost everything on the menu except for their seafood, i never have good experience with mexican seafood. Though i have heard only good things of their shrimp burritos, i would assume the flying saucer is good too. I like their burritos i have had all of them, i usually add beans to the meat burritos(including the cali) since i am used to having a burrito with beans, i don't know why others don't follow suit but to each their own. Their Tortas are also good, and you cant go wrong with carne asada fries with the tortilla cant forget that. My friend also turned me on to the California burrito with shredded beef substituting the asada. If you find yourself not hungry enough for any of those big orders, you can be satisfied with some good ol three rolled tacos, or their tacos. This is real mexican food not some gimmicy bs sold way over priced like celindas/las golondrinas sure they make a slew of salsas, but their breakfast burritos have potato skin in them i cant hang with that bs. esp at 5+dollars a burrito when alberts go the best breakfast burrito at 4 bucks with frenchfries cheese, five eggs, ham, and bacon. The thing has to have round 35+ grams of protein for you protein fiends. Their Chorizo burrito is one of my favorites they dont use that pasty garbage like the other wack mexican food places, they use actual chorizo sausage, and make sure you order it with french fries "con papas" if u will, this completes the burrito and is essential;still good without them but is just ideal. They take card, unlike albatross which is a huge buzzkill and they are now open 24/7 on weekends which is the only answer to those late night drunk munchies, and wont be as inundated with the certain crowd that always seems to be there. since albatross is almost always crowded in the wee hours of the night and even during the day at lunch hour from college, high school, and local business employees. That is why Albers or Alberts will always be my #1, and all the cherry coke you can drink if the above wasnt enough

Its been almost 2 years since coming to Albertaco's and I have no idea why its taken so long to come back. Albertaco's is simply awesome! After going to another local Mexican place with a similar spelling to make them all sound like the same Mexican joint... I made it a point to come to Albertaco's to make up for the abysmal disappointment from the "other" Albatros... Albertas... Whatever! Albertaco's has got great tasting food at an even better price. It puts all those other Mexican joints with a similar name to shame. * Carnitas Burrito - Now this is pork!!! Juicy and tender and not dry like at the other places. The burrito has got a lot of flavor and the red sauce they have is on a different level than most other places. * 3 Rolled Tacos - Oh 3 Rolled Tacos... how I love thee. Crunchy shell, tender meat and cooked perfectly, and the best guacamole in town... by a long shot. I love the small amount of grease that collects from melted cheese. I didn't say this place was healthy, but it is sure damn good. In my eyes, Albertaco's is the first Mexican joint to come to the area that really perfected good Mexican food. Previous to their current location, they use to be a couple of blocks down the street and I remember coming to them like in 1996. They haven't changed a single thing. They give you great food at a great price. We got 2 carnitas burritos and 3 rolled tacos and it only came out to about $12 for the entire order. Easy 5 star in my book! FYI: They accept debit cards now when I was there.

I seem to have been eating a lot of Mexican food lately. Mainly because it's cheap, served quickly and "fun" to eat. I have to say the tacos I had here were the best I've had in awhile. I ordered the Carne Asada Taco Combo. The tacos were BIG! With lots of meat! I usually put extra salsa on my tacos, but I didn't need to in this case. They were very tasty without it. It was served with the prerequisite sides of beans and rice. Only minuses. No flat screen TV and I had to listen to these half nekkid kids running around screaming in their swim trunks. Everything is served in a styrofoam box either To Go or Eat In. Not the best for the environment. Not the friendliest staff, but I don't care, the food is damn good!

We just had a baby at Mission Hospital and I needed to grab a quick bite. Found this place on Yelp and it had good reviews. I tried the California burrito, to see what all the talk was about. It was good but not great, but the price was right. The carne asada was fairly tasty but not high quality meat. The fries gave it some nice texture. The place itself is pretty dumpy inside but that is ok. They have a good offering on the menu and it is cheap. I will return once more.

I was craving some true Mexican food and decided to go to Alberts. I ordered a carne Asada torta and the meat was dry and tasteless. The salsa was really watery, it taste more like water than actual salsa. The lettuce looked like it was left out for days. Also the bun was cold and it taste like it was expired. The restroom had graffiti all over and the restroom smelled bad. I do not recommend anyone to go their, this is not true Mexican authentic food! I think chiptole is even better than this.

Fantastic hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. I love Albertaco's. It has been a tradition to come here after a late night of drinking since elementary school. When we used to ditch arts and crafts we would ride our bikes here and get some tacos. When it was time to come in from recess, we would say HELL NO and come to albertaco's to get some grub. That's how we rolled back in the day. Now I come to Albertaco's for nostaliga's sake. To live the obese American dream and eat whatever I want, whenever I want, however much I want and become grotesquely fat. You know why? Because that's my right as an American. The only thing I ever get here are the pollo asado fries. Everyone always order the carne asada fries because it's the "cool thing to do". But really it's not. The pollo asado fries are where it's at.

This is my go-to mexican joint. Cheap. Fast. Open late. Nothing fancy - just good food hidden inside a shopping strip behind stale, stained walls. Their carne asada plate, burrito and tacos are our staples here. Lean steak, guacamole, fresh salsa, cheese.... Years after our first try, the food is prepared exactly the same - even after they moved to their new location.

Two reasons that keep me coming back, the breakfast burrito and california burrito. I noticed that they increased their prices a bit since I've been going here, which was a bit of a disappointment but not a significant amount to make me stop coming. I don't really enjoy eating here at the the tables because its on the not so clean side. But just grab your food to go. Bottom line, if you want cheap mexican food and are in the area this is it.

This place is just straight up good. This is like the real stuff, probably as real as it gets as far as quality mexican fast food in SoCal (I'm part Mexican, btw) and is absolutely delicious. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place and would recommend it to anyone! It's amazing in quantity AND quality. Their shrimp buritto is like no other. seriously. but be careful! there stuff is PIPING hot!!! its right out of the fire! also, their agua de horchata, jamaica, and tamarindo drinks are amazing though my personal favorite is agua de horchata :) they're open real, real late and like any superb authentic food joint, it might look like a dump, but DAMN is the food good! :) Plus the guys there are really friendly if you know spanish! :)

I love this place. I've been going for years & years. I always get the Carne asada fries with everything AND 3 rolled tacos. They never skimp on anything. I've had the chorizo burrito, California burrito & chicken quesadilla. Highly recommended!!

There was an Albertaco's in San Marcos a few miles away from Oceanside where I grew up. When I started working in Orange County and went on lunch runs to places like Las Golondrinas, I thought I wouldn't find anything close to what I'm used to. Then I found this location of Albertaco's and I can finally say goodbye to beans in my carne asada and have california burritos again. Not as good as Los Cabos in Vista, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

My apologies to my dear, beloved wife, but I have fallen in love with another. I went to Albertacos today to pick us up dinner - Carne Asada fries, when I noticed two things - they now take cards, and they now serve lengua tacos y burritos. I was stunned and couldn't move. When the man behind the counter asked what I wanted, I was torn. I had been craving the carne asada fries for days, but lengua - I love lengua! I heard myself ask "Can you make lengua fries?" The man's eyes lit up, the corner of his mouth tilted up in a very pleased grin. "Hell yeah I can make that amigo, everything on it?" I nodded, still stunned. "I'll even throw on extra lengua" he said, winking. I was barely able to choke back the "I love you!" that almost slipped out.... The fries were awesome! I was full 2/3rds of the way through, but that didn't stop me from finishing it. Now I have to try the tacos y burritos too! Now if they start serving tripas, I might just have to move in...

This Review is only for the California Burrito. If you have never tried one, you absolutely must. Simple and delicious. A large, slightly crispy flour tortilla wrap up a generous portion of Carne Asada, Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream, and the Piece de la resistance is the French Fries. They add the perfect amount of potatoey crunchiness. One of the best most consistent Burritos around. Same goes for Albatros in lake Forest.

Albertaco's is probably my favorite place to have Mexican food. And I have a lot of favorite places to have Mexican food! My brothers and I discovered one in San Marcos, CA when we moved here from New York and we fell in love. Not with Albertacos at the time, but with mexican food in general. They don't really have a favorite place but I love this place because of their carne asada burritos, california burritos, and carne asada fries!!! Mmm probably the best creation ever created. =) If you love mexican food, or even if you dont, STOP BY ALBERTACOS!!!! =) You'll love it.

2.5 Stars. I think I have given up on this place. They don't completely suck, though, so I felt bad giving only 2 stars. The only reason they MAYBE deserve 3 stars is because they are open until 10 on weekdays and midnight on Friday and Saturday. For the OC....this isn't bad. The Latest Transcript: Me: Can I please have a breakfast burrito with just egg, potato, cheese, and sour cream? Lady At The Counter: ::Blank Stare:: Me: Um...Breakfast burrito? (Trying desperately to remember the word for breakfast in Spanish) LATC: Oh...ok. Me: But just egg, potato, cheese, and sour cream. LATC: Ok...um...egg...and what? Me: (with a pleasant smile on my face, and a nice calm voice) Potato. (2 second pause) Cheese. (2 second pause) and sour cream. LATC: Ok. No bacon? Me: No, thank you. LATC: Ok. 3.99. Me: Ok, thanks, here you go! (big smile) LATC: (Hands over the change with no expression) I got my burrito. There was no sour cream. There were barely any potatoes. And about 1/3 of the burrito was made up of what? Guacamole. WTF? I know, I am spoiled. I lived in San Diego just long enough to have access to a lot of 24 hour Mexican food that is light years better than this stuff. But STILL. If you just get my order RIGHT every time I will like you. This was the 5th or 6th screw up, and I am just pretty much over it. Las Golondrinas is so much better. I just wish they were open later. Their green salsa is pretty good though.

It's really dingy/dirty inside... you walk in and the grease just coats you from head to toe. However, let's talk food... the Carne Asada Fries HITS THE SPOT for $5-6. 3 rolled tacos for $1.75 Carne Asada Burrito for about $3 Cheap food cheap prices... happy belly. The end.

I remember this place like it was yesterday. Been going here since I was young kid and before they moved to this new location and were open 24hrs a day. Can ever go wrong with Carne asada fries, Carne asada nachos, Carne asada burrito, or a California burrito. Not the cleanest place but you ignore that as you munch on some awesome food. Love this place, it has treated me well over the years.

I came here because I was in the mood for some cheap Mexican food. I've been to Alberto's and this place does it better. I ordered the California burrito and three rolled tacos with guacamole. The portion size is very generous possibly large enough to share. I think my burrito weighed at least 2 lbs and filled with carne asada, fries, cheese, sour cream and I added guacamole for an extra fee ($0.75). It was fantastic with some red salsa. The rolled tacos are excellent and they don't skimp out on the cheese and guacamole either. The carne asada was dry with almost all fast food Mexican joints but the quality and quantity you get for the price is well worth it. The only bummer is that they don't take credit or debit cards. Everything is paid in CASH! The ambiance is nothing to rave about, you go there for the grub and that's it. I'll definitely be back to try out more of their burritos.

Oh you dirty lil porn star of a burrito. God damn you were tasty. I couldn't even wait to get home to devour you..I sucked ya down en route and that is no easy feat considering the size of that mofo. And, F the hot sauce..didn't need it..it had plenty of flavor without. The chick at the register was a lil odd. I asked to make sure they put beans in their burritos and she couldn't answer me. Finally the cook stepped up and said "refritos frijoles?" and I said "si si" and he did his magic. She charged me 50 cents for the beans which, I didn't give a shit, but found to be a lil fucked since beans should be in the burrito anyway. As I left, all I could think was that eating this burrito was like giving the hottest guy you have ever seen highway head on a perfectly straight, deserted road. It was perfect...despite a couple of grisly parts, which totally grossed me out, but didn't turn me off completely. I spit out what I couldn't handle and swallowed the rest down like a champ.

love their food. it is a real shame that the last two times I have been there they have screwed up my order and i have to go all the way back and get it fixed. While the rest of the family is eating, worse yet they don't care they barely apologize and act like nothing ever happened. Fortunately there are a lot of good mexican food places. So now i don't have to go back.

Albertaco's greasy California-Mexican style food is as good as it gets outside of San Diego. Cheesy goodness on top of all the tasty mexican food makes this a Californians delight. If you want more authentic Mexican the this is not the place for you. However, if you want American style hole in the wall Mexican take out then this is the place!

smelled weird in here.. but hey, it was 2am and one of my brothers groomsmen and I were hammered after the wedding so we walked our asses in here on a mission to eat! smell didn't matter at this point. ordered cheese enchiladas and a bean and cheese burrito. he got carne asada fries and I don't eat meat but the still looked awesome. I need to go back sober and make sure it wasnt delicious just because I was hammered. I'll go back and update y'all. ;)

This little Mexican Restaurant is a real gem. This place has some of the best burritos I have had in South OC. Their Carne and Carnitas Burritos are put together with in a perfect combination of meat, salsa and guacamole, (Which I am usually not a great fan of because most Mexican Restaurants over do this condiment, the same when they add Sour Cream...eeeeeech!). This place also has a 'open' Salsa Bar and they provide a pretty good selection of fresh Peppers, mild to fairly hot salsa, onions, cilantro...etc to add to food. I have never tried their combo plates, but I will assume if the Burritos are outstanding their combo's cannot be sub par. What I really like is that their Burritos are wrapped up nice and tight if you need to take them and eat them on the go. They are NOT gooped up with excess sauces or lots of liquids, they are not dry by any means, they are prepared just right.

Three words for you. Carne. Asada. Fries. I haven't weighed it out physically, but psychologically it FEELS like a couple pounds of food, but in a good, food-coma-inducing way.Their rolled tacos are delicious, and so are their carne asada burritos and breakfast burritos. Actually, pretty much everything I've tried has been decent, at worst. I remember this place before it moved to its "cleaner" location, which is still pretty dirty, but the food hasn't changed at all. I admit nostalgia may be playing a part in my review, but there's nothing like spending the day playing basketball or working out at the gym, eating a light lunch, and then wasting all of your efforts (and then some) by going to Albertacos for a late dinner. Good, cheap, greasy Mexican food. Bonus points for being open late in Mission Viejo - this place and standard fast food fare (Del Taco, Jack in the Box, etc.) are pretty much your only options...

When in the mood for greasy, tasty taqueria style Mexican food, this place works. Not nearly as good as Adalberto's, Santana's or others in San Diego, but will satisfy the craving. The pico de gallo tends to have a ratio or onion to tomato that is almost unbearable, however. I prefer to have my pico de gallo be mostly tomatoe, with a seasoning of white onion. Apparently the recipe here calls for SIGNIFICANTLY more onion, almost to the point it is 50 or 60 percent onion. I kid you not. Steer clear of this condiment if you plan on having your first kiss with a new fling later that day...

Carne Asada Fries here trump Albatros by a mile. More meat, better tasting fries. The salsa is not that spicy but I can overlook that. I need to go back again, my arteries want their clog time.

I'm hard-pressed to venture outside of what never seems to fail: the carne asada burrito. Just above $4 with tax, making it about 50c cheaper than most of the other A_____'s taquerias. And it's bigger! I'm still burping it up an hour later: onions, guacamole, and surprisingly flavorful carne asada (with only 1 fatty piece). Not that greasy, relatively. The dude that says the pico de gallo is onion-heavy is right--but I like it like that. Who needs to talk to people when you can just inhale these delicious burritos all day? Nice dudes at the counter. Guy who gave me my burrito was ultra-friendly. The "hot sauce" he offered me, despite not being "hot," was totally delicious as a compliment to the burrito. The store is kind of "big" but very empty and sort of weirdly set up. Bright orange and yellow tables and benches, I imagine usually filled with bright orange and yellow south county folks. Bathroom has a lot of graffiti for south county. "(someone) THINKS (someone) IS GAY!!" Winner. OH! They take debit cards. Rare for these places. Very delighted about that. All in all, pretty much in line with Alerto's, Alberto's, Albatras, et cetera. It comes down to practical things: distance, mostly. I find myself mostly at the Fountain Valley dual Alerto's, but they're all good, dudes.

Late night trip to Albertaco's. Not impressed. Enchiladas were soaked in watery sauce and flavorless. Ordered chips and salsa, actually warm and tasty. Husband had the chicken tacos..not really great..will not be returning.

I love this place! Eaten here numerous times. The two beef burrito combo is the best deal. Enough for lunch and dinner for less than $8. California burrito is killer! The quesadillas are big, greasy, and cheesy. Yummm! Only thing I would say stay away from is the breakfast burritos, they are big, but are not the most flavorful; definitely need hot sauce and ketchup for them.

Great place for freshly made food & great low prices. I really like the guacamole, but the rice isn't my favorite. They miss out on 5 stars 'cuz u have to pay for chips, and because I have a feeling the seasoning used when they cook rice has MSG. Bring cash. No credit cards.

Outstanding HOLE IN THE WALL Mexican. We really like this place. Family in from the midwest so we had to get them some real Mexican food. A few carne asada burritos, a chicken burrito and some rolled tacos with guac later, everyone was fat and happy. Great flour tortillas too!!!!

Came here yesterday on a whim. Had the #8 Combo - Carne Asada Tacos. I was expecting teeny tiny tacos with some meat in it. What I got were 2 huge monster tacos, overloaded with pretty good Carne Asada. That's just major pluses in my book. The place looks kinda dumpy but that's kinda the charm (See my Alejandros review from way back ;P). I will have to come back here. 5 stars for the food, -1 for being cash only (sorry, but me gusta plastico)

This is a great example of how the power of the Internet (and Yelp) bring customers to businesses you might otherwise pass up. This place is in a strip mall, and looks like a place you would want to drive past. However, if you have the munchies you have to get the carne asade fries. A huge portion of fries with guac, sour cream, cheese, and steak. Pile on the hot sauce and you have an instant food coma. If you are highbrow, not for you. If you are an adventurer, this place is for you.

I don't know why I woke up this morning with an intense craving for carnitas fries. Maybe it was because it was 7am and I couldn't go back to sleep and I'd been transfixed by "Muriel's Wedding" on Bravo. Or maybe it was because I was so incredibly hung over after YOCHH last night (shout outs to Bong, Christine and Miss Mimi!). In any case, I wanted carnitas fries. A search on carnitas fries came up somewhat short, but I knew that somewhere nearby there existed a joint that specialized in late night carne asada fries... Sure enough, Albertacos a couple freeway exits away came right up! The guy at the counter was nice enough to make my carnitas substitution. I ordered carnitas fries with cheese and sour cream. I kind of wish that instead of real cheese it was that fake crap canned cheese, but I think that is just my hangover talking. When I got home they were hot, fresh, crispy, yummy still. My one very very minor nitpick was that the sour cream was lopped on there and I would have liked it on the side since I was taking it to go. However that's probably my fault since I was too damned out of it to say little more than "carne asada fries, can I get carnitas instead of carne asada, no guacamole please. Thank you." While I share some of the other reviewers' concerns about the cleanliness of this place, I didn't eat here and I didn't have to wait longer than about 5 minutes or so. I came home to a LOAD of food that I am still gradually working on finishing. Thank you Albertacos for sufficiently chipping away at this hangover. A rare bright spot of gourmet ghetto in the vanilla that is south Orange County.

This place used to mean more to me back when I was in college and they were open 24 hours. All the corny study dates I brought here when I used to go to Saddleback. Now they relocated and are no longer open 24 hours. (Lost a star for that one) The food is still excellent (Carne Asada) and maybe even a little better than it was a decade ago..but the prices have also inflated. And what's up with no ATM cards...ATM's are so now...especially in college town!!!

The girl - child- that they have working at the front counter is a dip witt. She doesnt pay attention to you when you order and then when you tell her that you have been getting this a certain way for years, she argues with you. Sorry chicky, I have been coming here for 25 years, I think that I know how it is made. Regardless, she is a pain in the a- - !! RESTROOMS ARE GROSS AND SO IS THE FURNITURE.

My friend and decided to return to Albertaco's in the afternoon. We wanted to see what the area- and the carne asada fries- looked like in broad daylight. Let me just say this: completely different world, but the fries still hit the spot. We also ordered tacos that were a horrifying $2.25 but were literally the size of a small burrito so I ain't mad. They're giving out pens now, too. Grab one before they run out!

I decided to follow the advice of my Yelp friend Angela C and try Albertaco's, the sister restaurant to Albatro's which is an eatery I love. Right off the bat I have to deduct one star for the cockroach I saw running across the floor as soon as I sat down. And the I need to deduct a second star for the dead cockroach the first cockroach ran past. Albertacos is by far the dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in in Orange County. Filthy and insects aside, the food was awesome. Obviously I am one of those rare people that can still objectively evaluate food despite being grossed out by the surroundings. I went with the rolled taco with cheese and guacamole and the fries with cheese. Silly me for assuming that low prices = small portions. I would have been satisfied with one of the dishes I ordered but instead ended up tossing about half of what I ordered because I was too full. As far as I could tell the menu at Albertaco's is identical -though less colorful- to the menu at Albatro's. Albertaco's has a salsa bar but Albatro's has the squirt bottles. I prefer the squirt bottles, the 10 minutes less driving time and cleanliness so I doubt I will go back to Albertaco's. However, if for some reason Albatro's closes I would not hesitate to go back to Albertaco's because the food is very, very good.

I've tried two of the burritos and they were the carne asada burrito and the breakfast burrito. Out of the two i think i liked the carne asada burrito the best. Basically the burrito is full of steak, guacamole, and an onion tomato salsa. It is really good especially since its slightly under 5 dollars. Their really bright red hot sauce is really good on the burrito so try that out. This place's food is really good and cheap so what more could you want?

Love their carne asada burritos. Also their pollo asado burritos. I live in Dana Point where there's several authentic taquerias in nearby San Juan Capistrano but even they can't compare to the amount of meat and value you'd get in an Albertaco's burrito. One of my favorite mexican fast food chains is the San Diego based Alberto's. Albertaco's is a knock-off but a good one at that.

This is the closest thing to San Diego Mexican food (if you're from SD, you know what I mean!) in Orange County. Everything from the breakfast burritos to the carne asada is very good. Don't expect it to be the cleanest place but I have never gotten sick from any of the food made there. Trust me, I've eaten food from TJ sidewalk vendors and I know what dirty is! You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. It all is delicious but lately, my favorite item is their breakfast burrito. Sometimes I'll even order 2, one for breakfast and then one for lunch. And they don't fill your burritos up with rice and beans (sucka filler style for the "gringos"} which is a definite no-no for me. I could go on and on about this place but it's already crowded enough, so if you can't look past the dirtiness of the place, go to Taco Bell and don't go here! It'll keep the line shorter anyways.

So far best carne asada fries I've had in this area, yes better than Albatros! The carne asada burrito is really good too!

Albertacos is always a treat when we're in the area. Whether you are in to the carne asada fries/nachos or just a straight up burrito, the taste is on point. You can even maintain your diet when you come here. I eat mostly paleo, so a carne asada burrito in a bowl minus the tortilla is still killer and worth a try. For a quick Mexican meal fix, give it a go...

Albertaco's is legit. The food is always really good! I went tonight and they are so nice! Sometimes the day guy is a little out of sorts. I guess he's probably thinking of the next order or maybe he's just faded! hahah...in any case the food is always good. I wish the would just make this a 24 hour spot...then it would be the perfect dive mexi spot. Cali burrito is the one to order! I have tried other stuff but that's the best. Ohhh and to update the profile page on them says they don't take cards...they do now.

While Albertacos may not be open 24 hours anymore, making the late-night drunkards collectively panic without a place to curb their hangover, this may just be my favorite place to indulge in incredibly greasy Mexican food. Yes, I will acknowledge that the restaurant is not clean (the bathroom is what a portal to hell would look like), but I knew many people that ate here and never once got sick, giving credibility to at least the kitchen and salsa bar. The salsa bar may scare some people, but everytime I eat there I notice that they replenish the salsa regularly, so it is fresh. First things first, pay attention to the signs and don't try to pay with your credit card. The ATM is conveniently located in the line so you don't make everyone wait longer. The menu is actually pretty large, and dare I say that anything you order will please your appetite, assuming you are a Mexican food aficionado like myself. I definitely need to reiterate the sheer bliss of the rolled tacos. Perfectly crunchy, and smothered in guacamole and cheese, it would be in the running for my last meal if I ever ended up on Death Row. My other favorite is the California burrito, a burrito with potatoes, beef, and cheese. If I could only choose one burrito to eat for the rest of my life, that would be it. I can eat a lot, but one burrito from Albertacos normally incapacitates me. Order more at your own risk. Albertacos is my quintessential hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. It offers great tasting Mexican food at very reasonable prices.

Go here- it's a dive but the food is amazing. The carnitas burrito is great- kinda greasy, but isn't that what makes it good? The chips and pico are fantastic, too. My husband always gets the California burrito with fries. Bottom line- greasy, yummy, cheap.

First went here back in High school and a few years later I found out they close early nowadays. -1 stars for it closing at night. I only get the carne asade burrito with sour cream. Messy - but worth it.

This place is simply amazing How can their burritos be so cheap when they stuff the entire burrito with the expensive stuff? MEAT!!! Most places will toss rice and beans maybe lettuce in the burrito to fill it up, its cheaper for them to do this of course, but not ALBERTacos!! Of course if you want to add something like rice to a burrito they will do that too I was going to take a star away since this place use to be open 24/7 but nobody else is so I cant do that Food 5 stars service (pretty damn friendly for a hole in the wall) 4 stars price 5 stars

It looks dirty with serves who barely speak English - everything that makes a Mexican joint great. I ate here once every two weeks in high school and it never let me down. The nachos may give yo a heart attack, but they are delicious! The burritos are good too. There is never a bad time for a breakfast burrito.

3 rolled tacos with guacamole is all I need to say about Albertacos. It's the only thing I've ever ordered and it's so good that I've never felt the need to try something new. Currently, I live too far away to frequent this place once a week (or more), but when I worked at the Mission Viejo Mall this was my favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican food place EVER. It used to be open 24 hours a day, with it's busiest hours probably 12am-2am...unfortunately, a couple years ago they decided to start closing the place at midnight. Laaaammmeee. The decor of Albertacos is definitely not for the future interior designer. There are bright yellow McDonald's-esq benches matched with red tables and the rest of the place is just dirty dirty dirty. I don't know how I've never contracted a disease while eating here, but I figure I've built up an immunity so I'll be fine. If you're scared of the inside, take your food to go. This joint is great for authentic, cheap Mexican food.

This has always been my taco spot ever since Capo back in the 90s. Looks like I'm not too crazy for it as much as other people are around here. I guess they have nothing else to compare it to in beautiful Mission Viejo... Albertos is like the only Mexican fast-food that stays open late. I like the Carne Asada Fries and Fish Burrito... after a few bites though I'm over it.

carne asada fries Rolled tacos w/ tons of cheese and guac Breakfast burrito California Burrito Too bad they're not 24 hr anymore. Not authentic but if it makes you gas it's all good.

Yummy!!! We stopped by here on our way to San Diego, and loved it. I ordered the Carne Asada platter and my fiance ordered the burrito platter. The portions were HUGE. Mine came with the most chewy and delish flour tortillas on the side - I devoured the meal and was feeling full and satisfied for many hours thereafter. Highly recommend!!

You don't know hole-in-the-wall Mexican food, until you stumble upon Albertaco's. The outside (appearance) of it will creep you out, indeed. You won't be able to tell the difference between the local laundro-mat & this literal "hole-in-the-wall". But guess what? The smell of hot, greasy, salty mexican food draws you in, and you proceed to look at the menu. You have just made the best decision of your life. All you need to do is order the "Chips & Guacamole". The sweaty, yet beautiful cashier will then ask you, "with cheese"? And you respond, "Yes". You, my friend, have just spent the most worthy $2.90 of your life. Just add their pico de gallo & you'll be finding yourself sneakily tip-toeing out of your personal fitness gyms' doors and RUNNING back. Enjoy with napkins.

  • T M.

Everytime I have come here, I leave disappointed because of the owner is a cheap person. Last time I purchased around $24.00 of food and the amount of food I need the pico de gallo they want to charge money for a container for the PdG, and they tell me to take the smaller containers which are complementary but it takes me more time fill these little containers. For the amount of Pico I need it would take less time for one of their larger containers that they charge money for the amount of time it takes me to fill these little 1/2 ounce containers. In addition, when making the transaction, they charge money for processing the debit transaction. With all many other surrounding business who take credit cards without charging their patrons, they don't even take credit cards, only debit cards with a pin number, who wants to pay more money on top of the food they order with their prices as high as it is.

I am a proud Mexicano and I am extremely picky with mexican food. I just can't help it but I always compare it to my mothers home cooking and I know that in itself will kill the rating of many restaurants. The prices are pretty cheap and you get a lot of food. The thing that sucks is that you also get a lot of bad food. I just wasn't worth the calories. FYI I love my mother!!!

i was a huge fan when i was going to saddleback... but now, it's just alright. before they were open 24/7 and i suppose since then they started to keep hours because some douchebag OC bros decided to be fuckin' drunk bitches in the middle of the night. way to ruin the 24/7 experience. anyways, i just come here for breakfast now when i get the chance (i work at the mall, great option if you don't want to settle for the food court). when school is back in session, it gets pretty busy.

After reading the reviews here on yelp, I thought I'd give this place a try. The food was great and reasonably priced. I had the carne asada burrito; my wife had the chicken burrito. Both were very large and stuffed with meat. Each was under $4 and a great value. Don't expect a fine interior, or a "dining experience". Go there and enjoy very good food at a reasonable price.

  • Eric C.

Not the nicest looking place inside, the furnishing is kind of blah, sometimes the place is a little dirty, (especially the salsa bar) they are definitly in need of a remodeling, but they make up for it with their food. The size of their burritos are pretty good, the only thing I ever had there was the California Burrito and their chips and salsa, both good on a early Saturday afternoon or as a late night snack. +1 for the friendly service, the food here is not super authentic Mexican food but its probably as good as it gets around Mission Viejo/Laguna Niguel, but hey you take what you could get. :)

Scott - It REALLY depends on whos cooking the meat in order for it to be good. Ive been to this place when it was terrible one day, but im glad it was only for one day. Theres too many things that i love to eat here. My favorite used to be the Carne Asada Burrito, but now its actually the Carnitas Burrito, especially when its wet. They fry their pork there instead of boiling it and i think its loads tastier than the boiled version. I save the carne asada for the fries, which i get in a tortilla. It makes a world of difference. You can work the menu really well and get the best deals. Depending on how hungry we are, we usually get away with spending $4 per person. Ill tell you guys the secret. If youre really hungry or have 2 people, order: #7 with whatever meat you want. It comes to about $6 for 2 burritos, rice and beans. Its amazing. The salsa has always been good and i eat about 3 or 4 cups per burrito. I usually bring three people and order the fries with the #7 and we cant finish it most of the time. The place itself is really dirty, but i think the best mexican food are over in the in-the-hole restaurants. The burritos used to be a good 25% bigger and the meat was a lot juicier a few years back. The ONLY gripe i have about this place is they overcharge for their choco-tacos. $1.25 cmon! I can get it for like $ .75 at the ice cream man haha. Patty: I love it, I love it, I love it! Carnitas burrito, Carne Asada Fries with a Tortilla, 3 Rolled Tacos, Abodaba taco.. simpley the bomb digga twa.

This is the best Hole-in-the-wall Mexican Food I've EVER HAD. The California Burrito never disappoints - French Fries in your burrito may sound a little strange at first, but you will be hooked after the first bite!

Stay away. I tried this place based on its yelp reviews....yelp, may I have a refund please. Other reviews were right on when they said it was a "hole in the wall" type place. Not very clean. Nevertheless I gave it a go. I got the rolled tacos since they were all the rave amongst fellow yelpers. ...wont make that mistake again. To sum them up in one word....DRY! Oh, and the "salsa bar" consisted of your typical red and green sauces and THE WORST ATTEMPT at Pico De Gallo I have see in my life.....it was basically 90% onion, 6% cilantro and 4% tomato...and warm....gag. my advice...skip it and head to Las Golondrinas.

    (1)
  • Choister C.

Dined here on a rainy night. Read the reviews and came in with somewhat high expectations. The decor is minimal but when the food arrived, it was ok. I ordered the California burro and the fried were old and not crispy. The carne asada was... Not sure how to explain, but that dirty taste as if you were eating off a cart in TJ. I think the meat was old or Pre cooked that morning and then reheated. Salsas were average. Service was good, (manager) seemed real eager and nice. Too bad food was ok. The california burro at Albatros was better for me but then again it was fresh. But on the flip-side, why would you serve bad food???

BEST carne asada fries this side of Camp Pendleton. Having spent the past 10 years in San Diego, when I moved to OC I knew I would have a hard time finding some comparable taco shops. This one is fairly clean and I highly recommend calling in your orders. They're great and their hot sauce is bomb. Yum!

This place might not look appealing but the food is off the hook! I recommend a California burrito (flour tortilla stuffed to the top with carne and french fries with some kind of sauce) it is delicious and filling all for under $5. Also for desert try a Choco Taco (chocolate ice cream sandwich shaped like a taco!) this place is so great and it's right next to my school campus, but try to avoid the rush hour lines because this place can get packed!

I've honestly been going to Albertacos off and on for the last six years of my life and I've never gotten sick from the food there. And I've always gotten the same thing, #8 (two carne asada tacos with rice & beans) except for two or three times. For me, the # 8 is consistently delicious whether it's noon, eight o'clock at night or even back in the good old days, 1 in the morning. I miss the days of not only when it was open 24 hours a day, but I also miss the old location where the car dealership is. The drunk bros making fun of the kid who pulled up in a truck with a giant "Straight Edge" sticker on the back of his ride; the people who work there "forgetting" to turn the lights on at night; hearing second hand tales of such and such girl threw a bowl of salsa at some marines the night before. Make sure you get a giant Cherry Coke to wash it all down with.

I love albert tacos!! They have the best carne asada fries. My friends drive out here from irvine. They used to be open 24 hours, but unfortunately not anymore. The horchata is awesome and they seriously have the best carne asada fries in town.

love this place. quality Mexican food for pennies, ok not pennies but quality food for less than 10 bucks is rare in Southern OC. they service here is fast but super friendly. I love how even though they get about 10 customers w/in 5 minutes, they are still able to remember who's order is who's. I always get the 'Senorita, your burritos are ready!' My favorite is the California Burrito! Only place I can find in the area that makes them. ehhh on the cleanliness. but then again i am very picky.

this place was apparently THE place to be for the local uber-cool 'scene kids' as i soon found out stumbling across here for a late night snack with my sister and some friends. (back in highschool days.....uh, 2 years ago) ANYWAY! the food here is OK. it WILL leave you feeling like a stuffed greaseball, but not entirely in a bad way....unless you get the greasedrips all over your clothes, then you wont be amused im sure. i do understand why people would think its over-rated. the prices are alright. its a bummer they dont take card but they do have an atm right by the cash register area. service is friendly. theres always some young people there either from Sadleback college or capo or wherever. if youre SUPER hungry and indecisive over whether you want a burrito or burger and fries, try the california burrito!

    (3)
  • Chance P.

Very over rated! The meat is very greasy. I have had good and bad food hear, but mostly bad. Prices seem very cheap because it doesnt include rice, beans, or cheese in the burritos. Tortillas that they use are very very good though!

OMFG! You can order carne asada fries with a tortilla on the bottom! Its an oversized California Burrito! Freakin Genius!

Best Pollo Asado burritos in town. I am sure this is part of the Albert chain. The recipe seem similar to others which is a great thing. They know how to make Mexican food. They make it fast and they make it inexpensively. You can't get great Mexican food like this is fancy restaurants. This is a joint and I love this joint. They know how to cook!!

Supremely adequate Mexican food for this far north up the I-5. Unless you're headed into Los Angeles or the Mecca--San Diego--this is one of the better spots for California style Mexican food. While not as delicious as some of it's San Diego counterparts, Albertaco's definitely satisfies. Their California burritos are alright, guacamole is extra, and the taquitos, tacos, and other staples are also in good shape. The only major reason I might avoid Albertaco's is because some of the patrons tend to be loud obnoxious bro's; however, it's just all part of the surrounding environment. I won't hold it against the food or service which is great.

  • Taylor C.

Been coming here for years and years and it never disappoints, best Mexican food in south county. The Carne Asada Fries are the best in Orange County, and even compete with the best San Diego has to offer (make sure you order your Carne Asada Fries with a tortilla underneath). Rolled Tacos are also a classic (w/ cheese, sour cream and guac), and you can't go wrong with the Carne Asada Quesadilla or the California Burrito. You won't be disappointed!

The best, quick, tastey, scrumptios, large portioned, stomach filling place around. I wish they were still open 24/7, but some idiots had to go and ruin it by starting fights and loitering because they had nothing better to do. I LOVE YOU ALBERTACOS!!!

these are some pretty darn tasty carne asada burritos. and they're not small either. it costs less than 4 bucks, and i like to add cheese to it, so yum yum yum. its a total hole in the wall place, dirty, not decored, but who cares when u got good cheap food??

this place is great. used to be extra great when they were opened 24 hours. you will wait in line at lunch. bit of a crowd...side note... its a shockingly small kitchen...get the california burrito. also get the french fries with cheese. this place is good after a surf.

OMG! the breakfast burrito is to die for. I will be happy to drag my butt out of bed to stand in line for one of these incredible delights. Even ordering without the potato, this is more than enough food for one. The salsa and pico de gallo are some of the best around and wow the price is so reasonable.

Yeah I know, AlbertTaco's. Doesn't sound very Mexican. But I have to say, they have the best California burritos EVER! And I don't know how they do it, but the tortillas here are amazing. The tacos here are mighty good too. Sure, they're a bit greasy and with every bite you take a huge glob of grease will land somewhere, but honestly they are worth the years they will take off your life. Because seriously, those years suck anyway.

One star for this location, TEN stars for their Vista location. Night and Day sadly. I used to be in Vista once a week and would always stop and get the California burrito. It is excellent in Vista, and is not even worth pursuing at Mission Viejo. Maybe if I had never gone to Vista, I wouldn't know any better. But its sad, the MV needs to put some effort into their food, and their service. They guys that run the Vista shop are great..

I stop by here once a month to grab a late dinner. Love their carne asada burrito. It's simple, but yet perfect. I've tried their pork and chicken before but it doesn't stack up to their carne asada. Stick with the carne and you'll be good.

Great Great Great! The perfect hole in the wall type mexican food joint. Great chips & an awesome salsa bar. It used to be open 24 hours, so it was perfect "after bar" food. The taquitos are awesome & so are the burritos. The place is not very nice, but what do you expect. It's open late, & it's super cheap. Love it!

The drive to this place from UCI was farther than I thought. I liked this place much better than Alejandros. They used to be open pretty late, but now I think they're open at midnight at the latest. Good carne asada fries. The salsa bar could use more variety though. Its cheaper than Alejandros too I think. Pretty good considering this is where I had my first taste of carne asada fries. I wish they had more places up north that sold it.

living in irvine, you're very limited to mexican joints like this. if it means driving all the way to mission viejo (not THAT far, but still a drive) to satisfy that craving for mexican food, i'm down. located right across the street from saddleback college, it was way better than the albertaco's i'm accustomed to. hell, the one in cypress has double drive through windows and the eating area's outdoors. just parking there, i knew i would like it. the workers are really, really nice. and to my surprise, the young lady at the register spoke really good english (no offense). my boyfriend ordered a california burrito, which is kinda hard to find in orange county. i ordered my usual, carne asada fries. i requested no beans, but apparently they don't put beans in their carne asada fries. YES! i like this place already! with the economy the way it is, i expected the portion to be smaller than i'm used to (when i went to the one in cypress, they were very skimpy on the portions) so my boyfriend and i ordered 2 orders of the fries. BAD IDEA. when we got home, there was a MASSIVE amount of food in just one order of fries. i ate as much as i could, and so did my boyfriend. we had half of his burrito left over, as well as a quarter left of the fries. we didn't even touch the second order, so we gave them to our roommates. food's great. service is great. i can't wait to go back, but to the closer location in lake forest. that one's called albatro's, which i look forward to visiting the next time i get my hole-in-the-wall mexican food craving.

Not the fanciest or cleanest place but that's not why people come here. Cheap good food and a good salsa bar. Everyones go-to mexican food place at Saddleback and they're open later than 10 on the weekends which is hard to find in Orange County. They take debit cards now but for a 30 cent extra charge or something close to that. Always fun to go to with friends after class or late at night.

I have eaten here many times over the past 15 years. The place is filthy including the kitchen. I know it is a big college hang out for the cheap good food, but I know several people who have gotten sick from their lack of cleanliness. I can't disagree that the food is good if not great, but the filth keeps me away. Most people continue to go until they get sick.

This is one of my favorite little Mexican places in Orange County. I order the same thing every time I go there, with one or two exceptions (I tried to venture out but I always end up back at the same order). My first regular item is the carne asada burrito. It is made to order so you know it hasn't just been sitting there forever and it comes hot and fresh with a soft flour tortilla. They season the meat perfectly and it is always juicy and I end up needing napkins from all the juices that run down my hand. The other regular item I order is the three rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese. They are basically taquitos with guacamole and cheese on top. They are very generous with their helping of both. I always end up scooping some of the guac and cheese onto my burrito since there is always some left in the bottom of the container. This place at first glance looks like a bit of a dive. They have super old seats from what looks like an old McDonalds but you definitely come here for the food. It gets super busy around lunch time from the college, high school, hospital and businesses that are in the area. It is definitely a staple in the area. They have long hours, and are 24 hours on weekends. It is what I would call a hole-in-the-wall place but if you can get pas the fact that they don't decorate at all then you will really enjoy this place.

  • Max T.

One of the best burritos in South orange County. I still prefer sabrosada on El Toro but these guys are a clear winner in an area that has yet to understand that real burritos do not contain beans and rice. Cheap, great tasting, no frills... That's real southern California Mexican.

I came in out of morbid curiosity after hearing a wide variety of opinions about this place from people at saddleback and lordy! This is place is filthy. The eating area looks like they don't actually own the space but are just squatting here: he paint and drywall are completely gone in some spots, there was trash laying around from other places that no one seemed to be a hurry to clean up, and at any given point there were more flies than people in the building. The floor looked especially terrible, almost as if the place didn't even own a broom or a mop since they certainly had the time on their hands to try and clean up of the staff felt like it. I got the Carne asada fries since that's what everyone told me to get if I went here. It took a lot longer than I expected it to, but not because it needed time to cook since there was a big pile of premade Carne asada sitting on the griddle and the fries were almost cold as soon as it came out, and not because they were swamped since I was the only person in the place where I ordered, but because the cook who was making food decoded to stop and take a phone call in the middle of making my food. There was certainly quite a bit of good for what I ordered, but it definitely was quality stuff. The fries looked a lot like the premade kind you can get at the saddleback cafeteria, the guacamole looked, smelled, and tasted like the imitation stuff you get in 1 gallon cans at discount restaurant supply stores like the green stuff they smear on the burgers at carls jr and burger King. I don't even want to guess how long ago my meat was cooked. I guess that my friends who said this place was stoner chow were right. This really seems like the place you'd go when it 3am and partied out beyond caring what goes in your body. I'd avoid this place unless you absolutely have no other options whatsoever.

I needed a breakfast burrito STAT! So on my drive down from Anaheim, I Yelped "Mexican" food with $ dollar sign that is right off the freeway. Albertaco's came up with 4 stars. NICE! I actually use to work down the street from this place, so I'm pretty familiar with the area. With it being open early in the morning, I was happy! I walked in and there were several customers eating breakfast. I was in my running clothes, and when the guys who were eating their breakfast saw me, I felt like they were undressing me with their eyes giving me googly eyes and smiling at me. EW... I already felt uncomfy... I stood at the counter for a good 5 mins before someone from the back came to even acknowledge me. I placed my order of a simple carne breakfast burrito. Tell me why if I'm the only customer that it would take 10 mins to make? All the customers that were in the dining area left and I was the only one in the restaurant. That was odd... Anyways, finally got my to-go order and left in a hurry. The burrito itself was bland and I didn't even finish it. Gladly, the burrito served its purpose to curb my running pains, but sadly, the burrito certainly didn't deliver.

The carne asada fries are big enough for two to share. This is not a place you go to for ambiance, it's pretty unimpressive in that regard. The cashier will take your order at the counter. Once it's ready, you pick it up at the counter. You can use Apple Pay here, but my husband had to tell the guy he was going to use it. The food is decent. The carne asada fries have a lot of toppings on them, and the carne asada tastes all right. I also tried a chicken taco and this was decent, too. I wouldn't revisit Albertaco's but it wasn't bad.

Maybe this place got good reviews from people who ate here after a long night of drinking and had impaired judgment. My hubby grabbed some quick takeout and my rolled tacos tasted like windex (I had two bites). His california burrito looked absolutely disgusting! My hubby informed me that the inside of the restaurant looked seedy. STAY AWAY!

Really good breakfast burrito but the guy that just served me was awful! He was looking at the door behind me when I was placing my order (there was no one else there!), wouldn't look me in the eye and mumbled when my order was ready! They get 2 (and considered a 3) stars because the breakfast burrito was so good but I won't be going back. Plenty of places that have great breakfast burritos and that have fully functional employees working there that at least can muster up a "Good morning. What would you like?" Totally odd vibe here.

Rolled tacos here are yummy!!! My advice is don't get carne asada anything.....the previous reviews are spot on when they say it's bland. Carne asada here is very bland....tasteless....with fat, and chewy tough low quality meat....so skip it and get some of their better stuff. Have a beef taco....or their yummy rolled tacos!!!! You'll be better off. Oh and skip their Horchata....is made from a machine but bland too...instead get a fountain drink...follow my advice!!!

These peeps get busy. And when I mean busy they got starving college kids to feed from Saddleback College as well as these mall rats from the MV Shops and of course the regulars and nearby worker bees waltzing in. You should see these guys in action. A few times I've came here the line was almost out the door but after I order my grub it would only take about 5 minutes to have my doggy bag and ice cold horchata in hand. The food isn't anything extraordinary. As you walk in they have most of all of their menu items plastered on the wall so there isn't any confusion. Just your basic fast food style Mexican fare but what I like about these cats is that they don't over or under do it with the fixings. For example: their California burrito consists of only Meat/crema/cheese/skinny fries. They don't mess around and stuff it with rice and beans or any salsa fresca or fake saucy "guacamole". And they keep the burrito under wraps with only one fluffy lightly grilled flour tortilla and don't need double wrapping like some other spots I've frequented. On their rolled tacos its always guacamole/cheese and if you want lettuce and salsa fresca then thats by request only. Only thing lacking would be a sprankle of that white cotija cheese but it's all good. Since moving to South County this is our goto spot for consistent Mexican fast food. We'll be back.

California burrito! As any diehard California burrito addict knows, it's tough to find a good one outside of San Diego. Albertaco doesn't disappoint! Typical hole in the wall Mexican joint. Service is okay, so is the cleanliness. The California burrito is amazing. My personal ranking within Orange County: 1. Cali Tacos 2. Albertacos 3. Robertos (mv) Albertacos comes in as a close second only because it dwarfs in size. Will definitely come back!

I like this place, the carnitas burrito is the best and their green salsa is amazing. I came here for some carne asada fries with my friends. They are quite famous here, though they were kinda disappointing. First of all we asked for no sour cream, but they still gave us a huge spoonful of sour cream. I had to eat around it. Their carne asada was good it was just the fries. They were greasy and soggy and way too rich. We needed a ton of salsa to help it all down. The fries were just limp and gross. Kinda sad, I thought they would be better.

The only thing I've basically tried here ... CALIFORNIA BURRITO! Yeah I'll be honest it's fattening and it's not the healthiest thing out there but this is my weakness ! I don't live close by the area but if I am around there I always try getting a burrito here . They're good on timing with getting your order ready . The place is ok in my opinion seating wise . So if you're a first timer ... California burrito my friends you will not regret!

  • Jordan S.

Nothing special. I had a California burrito. The main ingredients were carne asada and fries. It was a surprise considering there was no guacamole. What makes it a California burrito? The fries? "California" implies avocado, not fries. I added guacamole and it was less than store bought. Anyways, it was just ok. I might go back to give something else a try.

Best Mexican food hands down. Amazing late night spot and the best hole in the wall you'll ever find!!

  • Tim C.

I absolutely love this place. Don't be dissuaded by the spoiled brats who complain about the looks of the lobby. They've obviously never eaten anywhere outside of Orange County. What's more important is that their food is delicious and has a pretty low price tag for such large portions. So if cheap delicious Mexican food is what you're craving, and you aren't afraid of a slightly dated lobby then definitely check this place out! :)

Greatness: delicious food hole-in-the-wall lots of menu options local decently priced Problems: the food is extreme greasy. place is dirty

Leave the table satisfied! Not a view like "Las Brisas" in Laguna Beach; but good, hot Mexican food at a great price. I regularly get to-go food at their location in Mission Viejo on Margarita Pkwy. Try requesting a tortilla on the bottom of their flagship "fries with carne asada", throw some Pico de Gallo on top and your good to go! California burrito is tasty too. Don't forget the salsa bar for your to-go order.

First and only time at Albertaocs: Ordered the 2 chicken tacos w/ beans & Mex rice. They're located in a strip mall near Saddleback College. There were several customers waiting for their orders which I took this as a good sign Cons: 1) No salsa, only red or green Enchilada(?) sauce 2) Plate of food was room temp w/ some parts cold 3) No flavor, bland, mushy w/o texture...very forgettable 4) Not clean..90% of table had residual food on them from previous diners; decided to eat outside where sun & air would kill off the potential bacteria Pros: 1) Inexpensive 2) Food ready within few minutes 3) Quells the hunger 4) I didn't come down ill *I suggest the Greek restaurant just 1 or 2 doors down, Surfin' Solvlaki...much better quality food & generous portions

It is what it is. Greasy Mexican food that is really cheap but really delicious. It's a high school and college favorite defiantly not for your kids and family

Carne asada burrito and carne asada fries are legit. Rolled tacos are pretty good too. Like their salsa bar a lot.

Gross gmo fake Mexican food . Ordered a first time carne asada quesadilla with guacamole . Was gross streak with a lot of nerves and skin with fake processed cheese and fake guac with watered down salsa ! I'm Latina and was expecting at least better than Del Taco .so gross I wish I could throw it up :( be Warned don't go here

Our favorite place to eat in MV. We eat here at least once a week. All the food is good. The carne asada nachos, taquitos, and chile rellano burritos are the best. They took the sting out of losing Albatross.

  • Hugh J.

Carne asada fries are amazingly amazing. I used to go there all the time during my times at CVHS (like 3 months ago lol)!

Good. Like San Diego taco shop kind of good. They hit that nice equation of quality, size, authenticity just right. Red sauce was also perfect.

  • Steven H.

Carne asada fries are the best thing to get here. I love the way they taste. I usually get them at least once a week. Make sure you ask for pico de gallo. Other good things I've eaten here are carne asada burrito, rolled tacos and chicken quesadilla, those are all good choices for me.

    (4)
  • Stephen B.

5 stars for there rolled tacos with guacamole and sour cream. They're always cooked perfectly crispy and the habanero sauce that's behind the counter is the bomb.

    (5)
  • Karyn C.

Very tastey and close to authentic. Burritos are generous in size and quantity of meat. I've always had my order done correctly by friendly workers and quick service. The parking lot and location are not my favorite, but the good is worth it.

  • Jennie C.

a no-nonsense mexican food joint specializing in creating round bellies one burrito at a time. this place looks like a dying mcdonald's with its red and yellow benches and slightly concave ceilings, BUT don't judge a place by its deteriorating decor. judge it obviously by whether there is a salsa bar (there is). we always get the breakfast burrito, which has the amazing transformative power of turning the eater into looking like a burrito by the last bite. they stuff this burrito chock full of fries and eggies and sausages. we also get the carne asada fries/nachos which (OMG) already comes with guacamole (without you having to pay extra)! the tacos are solid but not too life changing. tip: if you're getting the carne asada nachos to go, ask them to separate the toppings from the chips so you don't get soggy wilted chips. i always take my out-of-town guests here and sometimes i question whether they are here for me or the carne asada fries...

Best burrito I have ever had, it's great I love it me and my friends go here once a week. Get the California burrito and the carne Asada fries so good!!!!

  • Tyler K.

This place is my new go-to for satisfying, affordable mexican food. Burritos are big, and around $5. The carnitas burrito is my personal favorite. Customer service does the job, but nothing spectacular. Wait time depends on time of day. I've ordered and been out of the door in less than 10 minutes and also had to wait about 20 minutes also. It doesnt look so pretty inside but the food tastes great.

  • Paul S.

Came here today and got exactly what I wanted with great service and unbeatable price! I would have spent 3 times as much to buy an omelette at a breakfast joint somewhere. Excellent breakfast burrito. Got it with no cheese or potatoes so lo carb and lo cal!

    (5)
  • Stephanie N.

It says they are open at 5:30AM which was an exciting thing when you have an early shift but it's nearly 6AM and they're not open. Their hours are a lie. This is very disappointing.

  • Nina Nhi P.

California/breakfast burrito is a MUSSSSST. Not greasy like your normal ethnic burritos, that's what makes it better! Portions are a little small, I would suggest ordering two. They're also open late, beats any other fast food IMO!

    (5)
  • Andrew D.

I can't not give Albertacos 5 stars. Sure, it isn't gourmet or really that high quality, but this place is awesome. Come here to fulfill your need for a dank burrito.

  • Raymond G.

Mexican food at its finest in South OC. It's a hell of a lot better than any other "Mexican" place you'll find down here (Taco Surf, Amber's Cantina, etc.) Carne asada fries are a must-order. Carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese piled on top of steaming hot fries... who the hell can say no to that? The staff is amazingly fast regardless of whether you're calling in an order or a walk in. Just don't expect them to greet you or smile. But really, who cares? I love this place... BUT I've had better (especially in San Diego). The carne asada is missing some flavor and kind of just tastes boiled. With that said, this place still hits the spot when I need my Mexican food fix.

Love this place, old school great taqueria Mexican food. Had a breakfast burrito and a side of guacamole, came to $4.65. It was huge and I'm sold.

  • Lamar K.

Great food and delicious salsa , you can call ahead of time to place order so you don't have to wait in line. There prices are very inexpensive. Restaurant isn't the nicest place so I never stay and eat I always pick up and go. All staff is excellent

    (4)
  • Kerry K.

Legit stuff here. This is not your fancy fine Mexican food. This is the greasy stuff that tastes fantastic. A place where they dump the pico de gallo right on the chips, where the tostadas have some standing oil on them, and where the shredded beef has some crispy character to it. If that makes your mouth water, then definitely worth a visit.

    (5)
  • Ross A.

Grew up eating here. Came back 5 years later - the same. LOVE that about them. This isn't fancy food. It's quick, priced well, and delicious. Go somewhere else for service and fancy plates. Come here for some tasty Mexican food. And get a California Burrito to go. Always bring one home for later.

Just relocated back to OC from South Bay. This place is just like my fav hole in the walls in LA - and that's a compliment. The carne asada chips are amazing!!!! And the breakfast burritos are not to be missed. Totally good price too - under $5 for a burrito that will keep you full all day. They open early & stay open late. A great spot to grab a bite in Mission Viejo.

  • Jessica-Kay P.

Gahhhh.. Ok, SOOOO not like the one in Cypress so this was a big disappointment to me. Although, I'll give it to them. One of the better Mexican food spots in this area. Up to my standards? Ehhhhh.. Not quite. & my search continues..

Love the quick and cheap Mexican food. Lots of flavor and pile on the guacamole. :) I love the taquitos and carne asada Nacho fries! They do get super busy during lunch but they are fast.

  • Jeff B.

Love this place! It's just like Alberto's. I always get a bacon breakfast burrito or a carne Asada burrito. Other then drenching my burrito with sour cream when I added it to my carne burrito one time, my food has always come out good. No drive through but they are pretty quick.

Best to crave late night food adventures, or late night cravings. They are very cheap and actually decent sized portions. I must say, great local food joint to visit every now and then!

If you're used to good Mexican food then don't come here. The guac tastes weird and so do the beans. Keep driving...

One of my hundredth visits to Albertacos and as always perfect. We shared chicken taquitos with a generous toppings of cheese and guacamole. A huge perfectly grilled shrimp burrito and last but not least chile relleno. I can't say enough how great this little whole wall is. The inside is just as I say a whole in the wall and it's soooo yummy.

Probably the worst Mexican food I've had next to some from Texas. Service was horrid, food was terrible and inauthentic, and the atmosphere sucked. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I myself am not going to ever go back.

I crave the shrimp - glad I am not close to this place or I would be getting fat from eating them all the time! The shrimp is plentful and always cooked to perfection. Their food is obviously all fresh and homemade, not store bought or canned. In 5 years, I have only had a few other items on the menu and always want to try new things, but when I get there I automatically order the shrimp burrito! My only issue is the pico de gallo (sp?) is no longer available out front, you have to ask for it and they will give it to you. I understand this as people were overloading on it when they could help themselves. Oh, and you know it is fresh as it is never the same 2 times (sometimes too many onions!) Now that I wrote this, I know where I will be later today!!!

Ok so I'm born and raised in Southern California. Yes, folk's I'm a native. What I don't understand is putting french fries on "anything" and referring to it as Californian. Avocado maybe but not fries. That being said I love the California burrito. I just order it sans fries..... Another poster said it correctly. This place is always around when you need it. The food never disappoints. When I'm not ordering the California burrito it's the fish taco's and ALWAYS the taquitos. BF goes with the enchiladas and chili relleno. Everything has a homemade taste, is quite plentiful and reasonably priced. Don't come here looking for decor or creature comforts. Prepare to stand in line and wait. Be ready to sit at red and yellow tables. Plastic forks and knives that bend when you try to use them. And in the summer time prepare to take your food home to the air conditioned house. This place can get hot. But it is worth it! The focus is on the food and nothing more. That's alright with me!!

  • Aylin L.

Turn around and leave as quickly as you can! This place is dirty & the food is disgusting, let's just say Taco Bell has better tasting food. Grey tasteless carne asada meat made me almost puke

The monster burritos are the best! All of the food is great and hits the comfort food button every time!

  • Brett L.

Man do I love this place. The California Burrito is my favorite thing to get there. I get that, a coke and a bunch of their red or green salsa. SO GOOD! I have had several other items off the menu and have never been disappointed. The Carne Asada fries is another favorite that I get, but I ask them to put a tortilla underneath it and then I have the makings for a burrito later! Great hours and always helpful. You may not get a smile all the time, but these guys are all working hard and make some great food. Very affordable!!

Food: The food is really tasty here. I'm a big fan of the california burrito. It's not the healthiest food though. Pretty greasy. Cleanliness: This place is not very clean. The tables, and kitchen is usually pretty dirty.

'Between here & Albatros in Lake Forest, great tasting burritos! Overall, I like Albertacos better even though Albatros makes my favorite, al pastor! (Unfortunately Albertacos does not... BUT their Adobada Burrito does suffice!) The place is fast, friendly enough, tasty, & you just can't beat the prices! 'Came by again last week, had my cousin SE in town - visiting from back home, Hawaii. Good Mexican food in Hawaii isn't easy to come by so I thought I'd take her to one of the local, favorite, hole in the wall spots! (I was hoping to have SE try Albatros before flying back to the islands but neva' have time.) I ordered her a California Burrito. (carne asada, french fries, cheddar cheese & sour cream) 'And in her usual wahine fashion, "California Burrito?... 'With fries?..." (Hmph!) Note - Nose tilted in an upward 30 degree angle 'ANNNND she loved it! So, I simply told her to shut her face... 'And "You're welcome!" 8) A few of my favorites - Adobada Burrito * California Burrito * Fajita Burrito (Steak) * 'And the Carne Asada Fries! (I have yet to try the unadulterated Carne Asada Burrito but it's tough when I already know what I like!) Be strong Darrell... I tried the Chile Relleno Burrito a couple of times @ both restaurants... Great idea!... 'But doesn't really execute well. The chile relleno is only big enough to fill up half the burrito, leaving the rest with "filler." Either bigger peppers or two rellenos need to be used to really do it justice. It's worth a try if you're a Chile Relleno fan! My friends & I come here about every couple of weeks... It's not too far from the house, easy, convenient & open late! (That's another difference w/Albatros in Lake Forest, they're open 24 Hrs.) Albatros - yelp.com/biz/albatros-la… - Big Aloha! Food: 4 Service: 3 Ambiance: 3 Value: 5

Great taco shop, best I've found outside San Diego. The breakfast burritos are great. Carne asada fries are delicious! Great salsa bar always fresh and always on ice. The guys who work there are fast and friendly. They take all major credit cards and even Google wallet. Always open and always good, best taco shop in all of south OC.

This was the worst Mexican food I've ever had. And I love Mexican food. My boyfriend and I threw our food in the trash. And we are broke as hell

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
